Dernlan brothers lead list of 10 inductees into WL-S HOF

WEST LIBERTY - The induction of eight athletes and two coaches highlight the 1st Annual West Liberty-Salem Athletic Hall of Fame Banquet to be held at Woodruff-Vernon Banquet Hall on Saturday, Feb. 2 at 5:30 p.m.
The 10 inductees for the 2008 class will be the first members of the WL-S Athletic Hall of Fame, which exists to honor individuals and teams that have made a significant contribution to the athletic programs in the WL-S School District, according to the bylaws established by committee member Gary Ledford.
Four brothers lead a list of eight athletes to be inducted: Tim, Matt, Steve and Jeff Dernlan, all four-year letter winners in wrestling for WL-S.
Matt graduated in 1991 and also lettered two years in cross country. He won state three consecutive wrestling seasons and was named to the USA Wrestling High School All-America team during those years as well. In 2002, Matt was inducted into the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) Hall of Fame. He graduated from Liberty University in 1996 and received his Master's in Sports Administration from Bowling Green. Matt is currently an assistant wrestling coach at Penn State and is married with one daughter.Click Here for Full Story
