Paul Tomlinson recently joined Mustard N’ Relish Marketing Communications as their first art director. He spoke with the Columbia Business Journal about his life and career.
FAMILY: Single, son of Von and Sandy Tomlinson
EDUCATION: 2006 graduate of Liberty University in Lynchburg, Va.
CAREER: Intern designer for Lexington Life Magazine in 2006
HOMETOWN: Sumter
HOBBIES: “Cars ... any kind of Mustangs. Computers and any kind of cutting-edge electronics also draw my interest.”
FIRST JOB: Part-time auto detailer at McLaughlin Ford in Sumter
MOST VALUABLE LESSON: “God is always in control. We just have to trust him no matter what kind of curves life might throw at us.”
GREATEST CHALLENGE: “As a graphic artist, it’s pretty challenging to design a piece that you don’t personally like. Not everything you do can be a masterpiece. At the end of the day, if your client is happy and your work accomplishes their goal, you’ve also accomplished yours.”
CAREER HIGHLIGHT: “The satisfaction of doing what I love and making our clients happy in the process.”
FIRST CHOICE FOR A NEW CAREER: A track tester for SVT (Ford Special Vehicle Team) or a race-car driver
PET PEEVE: “Low-resolution images and text that actually gets printed... . Don’t even get me started.” He also cites bad drivers and traffic.
