The gathering place for LU alumni to wax nostalgic about their glory days and tell current students how easy they have it. Old hags & bright-eyed and bushytailed recent grads both welcome.

As Jupiter Christian gets ready to begin its winter sports season, Administrative Assistant to Athletics Nancy Loud said she is excited to welcome three coaches to the roster.

Jonathon Iverson will become varsity boys soccer coach, Gabe Tudor will be varsity girls basketball coach and Tim Holland will be the varsity boys basketball coach.

Before attending Liberty University to earn a degree in sports management, Holland was a student at Jupiter Christian and played on the school's varsity basketball team. In college, he was involved with the basketball team, and had the opportunity to help with coaching the team. He also worked as a manager with the men's NCAA Division 1 team.

"When I worked with the college program, I got the bug for teaching," he said. "I'm very excited to be back here."

Holland is dean of students at Community Christian School in Stuart. While this is his first year coaching for Jupiter Christian, Holland has five years of experience to help make the team strong, he said.

"We have some very quality programs in our district," said Holland, referring to other teams Jupiter Christian will play this season. "We have our work cut out for us."

New faces lead the way for Eagles basketball

By Jodie Wagner

Tim Holland found it easy to go home again.

When the head coaching position for the Jupiter Christian School's boys varsity basketball team opened last summer, the 27-year-old Stuart resident and Community Christian School dean of students immediately expressed interest.

"I'm an alumni," Holland said of Jupiter Christian School, which does not compete in the same basketball district as Community Christian. "I graduated in 1997. I coached at Community Christian for four years, and we had a nice, healthy rivalry with JCS."

Holland, who was named the Eagles' coach in July, hopes that continues.

A 2001 Liberty University graduate who earned a degree in sports management, Holland looks forward to building a successful boys basketball program at Jupiter Christian.

"We really want to ... make Jupiter Christian basketball mean something," he said. "As of now, we have some very quality programs at the school, and we have a high goal to meet in order to kind of achieve what they've done. I want to make it (boys basketball) mean something, and I want to build a program and get the kids to buy into what we're trying to do."

So far, the kids haven't let him down.

Holland, who helped coach and manage the Liberty University men's basketball team while he was a student at the school, oversaw an off-season conditioning program that drew many of the team's veteran players, as well as some newcomers.

"We've gotten a couple of new kids in, and just some kids that have developed a little bit more," Holland said. "They're a little bit older, and I feel like the potential is certainly there to have a good year."

The Eagles, though, will have their work cut out for them.

Jupiter Christian, which opens the regular season on Nov. 21, plays in a competitive district that includes Benjamin, Glades Day, Summit Christian, King's Academy, American Heritage of Boca-Delray, Gold Coast and Vero Beach-St. Edward's.

Holland expects several of those schools to challenge for the district championship.

"I'd say Benjamin, Summit Christian and American Heritage will be probably be (tough)," he said. "Hopefully, we'll be among those names by the end of the season."
