Since some of the perception of the quality of an Instition is derived from its alumni accomplishments, here's a post for notable Alumni who have garnered media attention (internet, print or other) and contribute positively or not so positively to the brand equity of the Academic Quality of LU:

1. Liz Wolfinger http://www.meredith.edu/nutshell/july06/p-2.htm
Interim Dean of Natural and Mathematical Sciences Named

Professor of Biology Liz Wolfinger will serve as interim dean of the School of Natural and Mathematical Sciences at Meredith College beginning on July 1.

As dean of the School of Natural and Mathematical Sciences, Wolfinger will be responsible for providing academic leadership for all programs located in the School, including biology and health sciences, the chemistry, physics and geosciences, and mathematics and computer science. In addition, she will work with other deans and the vice president for academic affairs to support the overall goals and objectives of the academic programs at the College.

In the department of biology and health sciences, Wolfinger teaches biotechnology and microbiology, supervises the biochemistry course, and oversees the undergraduate research program.

Wolfinger has served as vice chair of Meredith's Faculty Council, as director of faculty development, and on many College committees including the Instruction Committee and the Faculty Evaluation and Merit Pay Committee. She has been the recipient of five grants from the North Carolina Biotechnology Center.

Wolfinger earned her bachelor's degree in biology from Liberty University and her Ph.D. degree in microbiology from North Carolina State University.

2. Jayson Blair, NY Times guy (although he didn't graduate from LU...Anyone know that this guy had LU ties)

"In a little more than three years at Maryland, Blair served as a Rorschach test and lightning rod, inspiring extreme and seemingly irreconcilable reactions. He'd caught the journalism bug as a youth, writing for community and high school newspapers in Centreville, Va. before transferring in early 1995 from the Southern Baptist Liberty University to Maryland, the state's largest public university..."

I believe he was on campus for two semesters and wrote briefly for the Champion. Its not exactly something we scream from the rooftops with pride.

At least the Terps took the negative PR and not LU as much on this one since he holds a degree from there and not LU.

Yes Sly-he wrote for the Champion, and as a freshman had at least 10 page 1 stories (not sure of the exact count at this moment). However, this is one of the skeletons in the family closet that we don't talk about.
