I like the idea of having a big crowd for that contest. The more we can impress schools like W&M with out turnout to the better our chances are of forging longterm relationships with them. And the Tribe are certainly one of the schools we'd love to have on the schedule for years to come for many reasons.

I think LU needs to start some tailgating. We should have a Flamesfans.com tailgate for the W&M game. I know when they were here 2 years ago they had a bug tent and had a meal before the game in the corner of the soccer field.

Who's bright idea was it to make W&M our homecoming game? STUPID, STUPID, STUPID

I know the standard thinking is to schedule a patsy for homecoming in order to have everyone be all smiles about the weekend. BUt i don't buy into that train of thought in this case. This is a great opportunity for us to use a great crowd to give us a boost in a game that we could win. We undoubtedly will be heavy underdogs to a team that totally destroyed us this past fall. But a fullhouse can help even the playing field a little bit. And could you imagine what it would do for our program if we were to not only upset W&M but do it in front of a alumni who might be inspired to open their wallets for donations?

And I reiterate my point at the beginning of the thread of how important it is for us to have a nice turnout to impress W&M who we would certainly like to develop a longterm relationship with (whether in a conference or simply scheduling into the future).

speaking personally- and bear in mind I sustained a head injury last week- I'd rather see us battle a respectable team than watch us slaughter some D2 chumps.

Well I can get a banner made, I might be able to pull some strings for food depending on what sponsors want to help out..I know SCAR and the rest of the group will be there. I agree with you Sly about not playing a cupcake on homecoming we need to make a statement this year and homecoming will be a great opportunity..

Yeah a big win on Homecoming night would do wonders. I know they aren't that great a football team but we still have the video in the archives of our win over VMI from HC 2003 (Man I so wish Dr Kerr had let us rush the field that night and played the fight song down there with all those cheering fans and students)

The lack of tailgating always has been, always will be a problem for LU and a source for low attendance. Key ingredient for tailgating = BEER. Until Jerry downs a Miller Lite in the parking lot, attendance and fan participation at LU will always lack compared to other programs/schools.

do you honestly think people don't attend football games because they can't drink beer at tailgates?

Silly me. I always thought it was a lack of wins on the field. I don't think a truckload of Miller Lite would have helped attendance the end of last season. (Of course, it might have greatly enhanced the experience for those of us there).
