Prosecutor switches gears to gangs

Jason S. Shoemaker has gone up against a counterfeiter and a cattle rustler since becoming a prosecutor in May 2002. He helped send both to prison.

Named the gang prosecutor in the Frederick County State's Attorney's Office in January, Shoemaker focuses his attention on crimes involving drugs and guns.

"It's certainly a change of scenario," said Shoemaker, 37, one of eight assistant state's attorneys assigned to handle Circuit Court cases.

A 1989 Frederick High School graduate, Shoemaker spent two years at Frederick Community College before transferring to Liberty University in Lynchburg, Va., as a history major.
