The gathering place for LU alumni to wax nostalgic about their glory days and tell current students how easy they have it. Old hags & bright-eyed and bushytailed recent grads both welcome.

Adminisrator Nancy Ritenour: Making Her Dream A Reality
By Brandon Ryman

Maurertown - The long road leading to the establishment of Community Christian School hasn't been all that smooth, but thanks to the hard work and perseverance of one woman's determination, the pitfalls and hairpin turns have been negotiated.

The journey down that sometimes crooked road started in Nancy Ritenour's mind in 1996.

"I began feeling like Shenandoah County needed another option for schools," said Ritenour, the administrator of CCS.

Ritenour, of Fort Valley, had attended Christian schools during her youth. She thought that a non-denominational Christian school would be best for the county's needs.

And a lot of people, she said, agreed.

But no one really stepped up to the plate, so Ritenour decided to.

In early 1997, a general meeting concerning the establishment of a Christian county school was held, and attended by about 35 people, at the old Edinburg Middle School.
