The gathering place for LU alumni to wax nostalgic about their glory days and tell current students how easy they have it. Old hags & bright-eyed and bushytailed recent grads both welcome.

By the way Johnny Cash wrote a song about Heavy Metal with the song entitled "Heavy Metal don't mean rock and roll to me". Great song. My second favorate Johnny Cash tune. "The Baron" being number 1. I saw him back in 87 in Wilmington. Great voice.

Consider me a man who appreciated the Man in Black as well (and I'm not referring to Jerry Glanville).

He might have been a closet LU fan, that being the motivation for "Ring of Fire"

And don't forget Pat Boone's album "No More Mr Nice Guy" where he covered a host of heavy metal songs from Paradise City, to Crazy Train to Smoke on The Water

My musical taste is pretty eclectic, but you hit on one of my favorites Stevev. Something about 4 part male harmony that makes me want to sing along (usually the bass). I like barbershop even better than gospel.

My favorite artist and my favorite concert ever is one I'll bet nobody here has heard of. Maybe Sly because he's connected to the Latino community.

Antony Santos........... el maestro de la BACHATA!!

My musical tastes also run all over the place, but I'll list those that I keep coming back to constantly:
Bruce Cockburn, Mark Heard, Pierce Pettis, David Wilcox, Johnny Cash, Dylan, (see a pattern here? all are great songwriters)
U2, Daniel Amos, The Choir, 77s, Lost Dogs, Van Morrison, Al Green, Nickel Creek (amazing chops), Bill Monroe...and any other group that straddles the bluegrass / newgrass fence.

Billy-
Looks like on many levels that you're stuck in the 80s/90s. Dude, your musical faves haven't changed much in nearly 25 years (although I do side with you on Nickel Creek and U2). I too, prefer music by Christians in the mainstream rather than most Christian radio dreck. But where are your mentions of The Afters, Mat Kearney, The Fray, Mae, Death Cab For Cutie, Switchfoot, Natasha Bedingfield, Relient K, etc., etc., or even teenie-bopper faves Jonas Brothers, Aly & AJ or Mylie Cyrus? Christians are all over the pop charts these days (except, alas on the hip hop/R&B).

Well...I really started getting into guitar playing after my LBC years (I had been playing off and on since I was 16 until that time). I was a Young Life guitar player for a little over 12 years and have played a few coffeehouse type gigs. Since I was playimg my acoustic...I started looking at other players out there, focusing on the song writting and the use of alternate tunings and partial capos. There's not many folks playing electric in alternate tunings (with the exception of say...Sonic Youth). I even sold my 1985 Kramer in 1991 because I was so into acoustic playing. That in turn led me back to Bluegrass...which was what I grew up on. I have since developed an electric itch and bought a Les Paul copy off ebay back in March. I just have these different moods when I'll play my Larrivee jumbo in open C for a few days and then I'll plug in my Les Paul copy into my Line 6 pedals and then run that inot my 86 Fender Princeton Chorus amp and play lots of very dirty sounding blues riffs. That's when I turn it up to 11. :nod

In the Richmond, VA area. I had the opportunity to work with kids from 6 different area high schools during my YL volunteer days. I think I was a volunteer longer than some folks were full time staff.
Is / was Alan Miller the YL AD in Lynchburg? Anyone remember a guy named Tom Goodrich? I think he played guitar for some YL events in Lynchburg.
