one of my friends from around town is friends with some of the guys on the LC men's basketball team. I was just informed that after the game last night, one of the basketball palyer's parents was flying himself, his son, and one of the other players somewhere up north. the plane went down in newburgh, ny, and the father passed away, his son is in critical condition and the other player is in stable condition...

apparently the one in critical condition has two broken legs and is in the ICU in intensive care at a hospital in NY. the other kid has at least one cracked rib, internal bleeding, and pending MRI results may require back surgery.

the player who got injured the worst has broen bones all over his body and will require several surgeries in the following weeks. he is expected to survive, and i'm no expert on this stuff, but I imagine it will be a year at a minimum before he is able to return to being "normal" and i'm sure he'll be lucky to play basketball ever again - but that is obviously of least importance right now. he was also placed into a drug induced coma so he can become stabalized. the other kid has a broken vertabrae, so that sounds pretty serious to me...

my coping mechanism is to try to make the day as normal as it possibly be - which includes looking ahead for the rest of the season, rather it's classless or not is up in the air but it helps me cope - and according to the LC website they have a game on Wednesday, I can't even begin to imagine how they'll be able to play that game...

nothing classless about it. My experience is to do the same (as much as possible), and those I've known personally that have had serious injuries or illnesses often PREFER that others do that as well.

well things are looking up it appears. the "least" injured of the two isn't in the ICU anymore and had a successful back surgery, and apparently he won't need anymore surgery but will have to have a back brace. the one that's really screwed up was put into a drug enduced coma to quicken the stabilization. he still needs another surgery in the chest (for air sacks i believe), the internals are fine (i guess that means his internal organs and any internal bleeding) but he still has a long road ahead of him due to the large number of broken bones he received. he is still in intensive care where only family and longtime friends can visit. both are expected to recover fully, so i have to say based on that news that things are looking up.

Great to hear that things are looking up. I'm certainly adding them to my prayer list, though. Sounds like there's a lot of difficulty ahead of them. Please keep us updated.
