I've had an in grown toenail for a few days. I've done absolutely everything I know of to try to fix it (even consulted with Fumble and Medic). It's not getting any better. I've tried to find the toe nail and just simply can't find it to cut it out. I can't go to the doctor til at the earliest Tuesday or Wednesday, so just pray that the pain subsides and God heals it without me having to go to the doctor. Anyone who's been around me this week (Lib, Jdub, Bryson) has seen how bad it was. I hate complaining about stuff like this but it's gone from hurting just when I walked to constantly hurting. Thanks guys.

Either go to the Urgent Care place down the road from Arby's or see Dr; Lane on Tuesday. You gotta be careful with any infection like that.

Where's Dr. Lane?

I've been trying to keep it clean with peroxide multiple times a day, soaking my foot, and Neosporin when I wasn't doing the other two.

I'm afraid it's more serious than that. I seriously cannot find a nail in there. I'm afraid I actually cut the toenail out but didn't get it before the infection did and now I'm having trouble killing the infection.

Urgent Care is worse than the hospital emergency room in terms of wait time. I'd say get a big ole mess of ibuprofen and hit Light Medical or wait to see your doctor.

I don't have a doctor here in Lynchburg. And yea, I just took 600mg of Advil.

If you call your home doctor's office, you may be able to get a referral to a local doctor for insurance purposes.

If you are still looking for a doc who can see you, one option would be Dr. Clark at the Family Care Center, corner of Waterlick and Timberlake. No appointment necessary. It's a little storefront office up behind the CVS and next to the Asian Dollar store. He closes at 4:00.

Let's see ... no appointment necessary ... operates out of a storefront ... behind a CVS ... next to a dollar store ... closes before dark ... hmmm.
Just an innocent question here: did this doctor's last "pharmacy" explode when his van hit a speedbump? Just curious.

I kid, olldflame. Is joke from old time, as The Continental would say. I'm sure this "Dr. Clark" is "highly regarded".

Is that place decent?? Because I live just down the road and whenever I am getting Ice Creme from Mr Goody's over there I look at that place and think to myself, "I would never go in that place for medical care"

It just looks run down to me

Well, you know what they call the person who graduates last in his class in medical school??????

DOCTOR

I've gone there when I felt I needed medical care, it wasn't an emergency, and I couldn't get an appointment on short notice with Dr. Albers. This place used to be a fairly good sized operation with several docs and another office in Madison Heights. Then a few years ago the owner, Dr. Burns was killed in a motorcycle accident. The Madison Heights office closed shortly thereafter, and now it's just Dr. Clark. He seems competent to me.

Another walk-in clinic which is a bit larger is the Physician's Care Center. They moved recently, I think the new office is on Ward's Road.

I had in-grown toenails so bad that they did surgery that had me out for a week to complete remove the nail on both toes. A year later, they grew back anyway. Just much less painful, and they grow much slower.

I too have had surgery for an ingrown toe nail. They numb it so you can't even feel it. The quicker you go to the doctor, the better. Physician's treatment center used to be $70 if you didn't have insurance...it's probably higher now.

Otherwise...if you have insurance, I would think that an infected in-grown toenail would be considered an emergency. You'd have to look at your policy.

I went there before I had a regular doctor to get tested for Lyme's Disease. Nice people, but all of the equipment looks like hospital hand-me-downs from 1974. But, hey, they did a good job. And now I have a new doctor who has new equipment.

As for the ingrown toenail, I had a real bad one and I went to a pediatrist on Lakeside. I forget his last name, but it started with a Z. He was real good. If your insurance will let you, go to a foot specialist. My wife will attest that regular doctors will try to take care of it, but they rarely get the problem fixed and it comes back in a few months. She went to 2 doctors while she was in college before she finally went to a pediatrist one break when she was home. It was fixed after that.
