Uconn politics...

Hey, thought I'd better start something here - no one's posted anything in the chapel.

Last football season, there was a columnist in Hartford that complained about Uconn playing Liberty...he then went on to slam LU for being a school that basically indoctrinates students with conservative views, and Uconn shouldn't support a school that doesn't allow all views (i.e. by playing us).

I thought it was interesting when conservative speaker Ann Coulter went to UConn, the students there shouted her down...I haven't heard anything from the same columnist on how Uconn doesn't allow those with conservative views to express their opinion, and I haven't heard any LU students or columnists complaining that we shouldn't play UConn in any other sports.

It just seems like to me secular humanists (agnostics, athiests, etc), best tool is not allowing a free exchange of ideas...and then they complain that those on the religious or political right are narrow minded and not open to ideas.

Another example would be the Evolution/ID design argument. A Federal Court in Pennsylvania basically ruled that Intelligent Design couldn't be taught as a viewpoint in the classroom because it was an attempt to promote religion.

Basically, they can't even put a sticker in a textbook that says, "Evolution is a theory on the orgins of life, and it should be carefully and critically evaulated"...in other words, no other views allowed.

Its a typical liberal tactic to scream about the need for "open minded" discussion in relation to Christians. But when we express our opinions we are demeaned as intolerant. You can't have it both ways.

sly has it pinned perfectly. it may not be such a big issue if jerry falwell was not the founder of Liberty. But that is OK. Liberty will continue to flourish and we we still play schools that do not like us or jerry, and if we can win just one soul after an athletic event or developing a friendship with a player form another school, then to me it was totally worth traveling to any school.

Yes, I like LU playing the secular schools as well. I was just trying to make everyone notice the dual standards when it comes to being "open minded".

my kids are in the public school system. they are getting a thorough orientation in Jewish, African and other nationalities' traditions but judeau-christian (sp) ethics and ideas are NOT high on the list.

The way evolution is taken as fact and pops up in "innocent" shows (like Sesame St.) and books is aggravating. :x Evo vs. ID was the subject of a recent article I read (can't remember who sent it). Some good points were made, so I'll try to find the source . Anyway, the point about tolerance being for everyone except Bible-believing Christians is well made.
I took a class on Genesis a few yrs. ago; they used a Ken Ham video. It was intriguing to see him use the Mt. Saint Helens erruption as a basis for showing what cataclysmic events can do in a short period of time.
Pray that I can regain compassion for the lost and not be all about "justice." Pain has a way of making some people cynics.

I'm real late on this one, but in California, the Univ. of Cal Board of Regents will not accept either the ABEKA or the Bob Jones curriculum. There is a law suit going on now, but they obviously want to eliminate the Christian viewpoint/education. They can teach homosexuality and any other perversion, but if you teach God's Word as Truth, then you cannot come to our schools.

The "World" is a beautiful place. If you don;t believe is, just ask Lucifer ( Isaiah 14:12). No doubt full of those that Jocelyn Elders referred to as our "best and brightest."
