Baylor prof Beckwith becomes Catholic, resigns as head of evangelical society
By Greg Warner

WACO, Texas (ABP) -- Renowned evangelical philosopher Francis Beckwith has become a Roman Catholic and, as a result, has resigned as president -- and also as a member -- of the Evangelical Theological Society.
Beckwith, associate professor of church-state studies at Baylor University in Waco, Texas, said the decision he made to seek "full communion" with the Roman Catholic Church grew from his desire to find "historical and theological continuity" with the early Christian church.

All I care about is, is he saved? I am not going to get hung up on religion, more concerned about his relationship with Christ.

can you see this old guy sitting through CCD and Confirmation class? I guess they would just think that he's another bishop looking for a date, I guess.

Zach, pedophilia and child abuse are not joking matters (esp. if you are really a pastor yourself).

gotta admit- I laughed.
maybe its a PA thing.
sorry.
seriously, the actual crime is hideous- but he didn't make the crack TO a victim. Not to speak for Zach, but I'm pretty sure he would be sensative to someone in that situation. Sometimes dark humor helps keep you from getting overwhelmed from all the sickness out there. I know it does in MY business. You don't want to know what medics joke about, trust me.

Eh, Baptist and Catholic are pretty much the same already. They just stand up and sit down in different spots.

jim, your right about it being a serious issue, but I get tired of being associated with those "men of God" just because I happen to be a pastor. Up here in PA, they lump all clergy together and when media and people alike refer to the church, the are talking about the Catholic Church. Unfortunately, the culture up here is one that is not reverent to the reverends anymore. They put us all under the "pedophile" moniker. Basically, guilty until proven innocent.

The flock needs to stand together to combat those whose life's goal is to plant seeds of doubt especially those who do so from their positions of power. Those that seek to spread doubt in the Lord cause harm to those that could have turned to him for comfort during difficult times and during times when science does not provide the answers. Also, to deny God is to deny the source of our rights as humans. And for these reasons and many more, the spread of the teachings of Christ is what truly matters and not the denomination.
