i have been involved in both sbc and independent baptist churches and more effort and money was given to foriegn missions. i have known some missionaries going to the usa told to go get a job and a work. some missionaries have to spend up to 4 years raising support. i believe as christains we need to have a greater focus on home missions .

Amen. That's what I say everytime people jump on me for not having a passion for people overseas. We've got just as many homeless and starving people here in the US that we don't care about yet we send money and crap to other countries.

The SBC splits their offerings between NAMB (American Missions) and IMB (International Missions). That's actually the best thing about the SBC is their split among both local and foreign.
Independant churches are infamous for the traveling to raise support stuff.
The other thing is that we have to change the perception that "missions" is something other people do. Every Christian should be a missionary in their own community and foreign missions should simply reflect what is done at home. I find it so funny that churches who aren't reaching their neighbors want to go and teach foriegners how to do the same stuff they do. That's crazy. Let's go teach people over there to ignore their neighbors?
