A Liberty University student was killed in a crash Saturday morning after the car he was riding in struck a tree in Franklin County.
Darius Dixon, 18, of Chesapeake, was a freshman at LU and an athlete on the track and field team.
“It’s a tragedy,” said Johnnie Moore, spokesperson for the college. “Liberty is praying for this family.”

Flower and her brother, 18-year-old Caleb Flower, who was riding in the backseat, were taken to RoanokeMemorialHospital.
Moore said Abigail Flower is also a member of the LU track and field team, though her brother is not a student at the college.
Carpentieri said Abigail and Caleb Flower had worn seatbelts, though Dixon had not.
