Prayer Request - Career Path Shift

Some of you know what I've done for a living for awhile now, so I won't go into great detail. Suffice it to say, I work in a pretty public profession. For the past couple of years, I have become increasingly aware of the shift that taken place within it, a shift primarily in the priority placed upon ladder-climbing, money-making, and generally keeping one's job moreso than actually DOING one's job, which I believe to be affecting lives through what I do.

This past year, I endured a supervisor who made numerous claims and promises during the interview process as well as the early days of my employment, which proved untrue. Not the least of these was this supervisor's claim of Christianity in her life, yet a life lived in an entirely opposite fashion, as well as a work atmosphere that was often hateful, demeaning and abusive.

I resigned from that position on my own terms. Now, I'm exploring the possibility of expanding the scope of what I do professionally, but at a level much lower than I've been doing it. Most will consider me borderline insane for walking away from this point and current direction of my career. But we all here know that money and prestige are not supposed to be why or how we answer God's call in our lives.

The prospect of my being offered this opportunity seems very likely, though I'm still in the interview phase. I would appreciate your prayers for my wife and me as we make numerous decisions surrounding this shift.

We are not called to work to impress others. We are called to live like Jesus.

Praying for your provision and guidance.

I received a "no" answer today from the people with whom I interviewed on Monday-Tuesday. I'm a bit disappointed and confused by it. But nonetheless, I move on.

I have another interview coming up on Tuesday. I appreciate the continued prayers of all.

I thought to those who may have been praying - and it is much appreciated - I should provide another update.

My two interviews in early and mid-July wenty well, but I received "no" answers to both. I can now admit to the members of the board that the second one was at Presbyterian - gasp! - and it was a great experience. The defining factor, which I had predicted to my wife after visiting Clinton and before hearing back from the supervisor, was that he and I were a bit too much alike, and I would therefore not bring enough unique skills and abilities to the position. On the surface, this may seem trite, but in this field it should be normal than it unfortunately is sometimes.

I have an interview in Lynchburg soon. Yet again, this position would mark a shift in professional track, but is one I would still enjoy, I believe. Continued prayers are appreciated.

Glad to hear things went well, even without an offer. Will definitely be praying that you can stay vigilant while God brings about whatever it is that he has for you.

So, God's plan wasn't much of a career path shift at all. Happily, I have found a job much the same in title and scope to my previous position. Thankfully, my supervisor doesn't seem to be anything loke before.

Thank you all for your prayers.

Thank you, and thank all of you for your prayers. The transition has been about as smooth over the first month as one could hope.
