Another tragic fire claims the lives of two Kenyan LU students. They were identified today by police.

The two men killed in a Lynchburg apartment fire Sunday have been identified as Victor Kwatemba and Philemon Abayo Onyango.

Lynchburg Fire Marshal Greg Wormser said both were from Nairobi, Kenya.

Officials believe Kwatemba, 22, was a Liberty University student and Onyango, 21, was a former LU student, Wormser said.

How awful! Praying for their family & friends. I wonder if they are buddies of Sam Chelanga or Evans Kigen?

Kenyan students — a particularly small group with just 25 students currently enrolled at the university — are especially close. When asked how Kwatemba and Onyango came to know each other in Lynchburg, Wanjohi said it was simple enough. “They were both Kenyan.”

I would guess that they did know them pretty well, Sly. Very sad for the whole group and the LU community as a whole. Praying that God would be glorified through this and for comfort for those who knew them.
