Death of J.O. Grooms

Any old hag pushing 40 probably remembers one of LBC's earliest professors, J.O. Grooms, who passed away today; he was also on TRBC's staff for a number of years. For those of us who knew J.O., only one phrase comes to mind: "Soul Winner."
His son is the pastor of Thomas Terrace Baptist Church on 460 East. Pray for the Grooms family.

When I went to LU, J.O.'s "soul winning" class was required for all new students, Freshmen or transfers.

I wasn't a big fan of his telephone evangelism class. But my grandfather raved about him so that's good enough for me.

Last time I saw him was 4-5 years ago while jogging on Brookville's track at 5:30am. He was walking around the track for exercise and flagged me down and gave me a tract. He was consumed by the desire to reach people for Christ. He also mentioned to me the work they were doing in India with Treasure Path to Soul-Winning. He had just come back from there. Whether we liked or agreed with his methods (I too felt pretty uncomfortable sometimes in the telephone evangelism class), we should all try to emulate his dedication and commitment to sharing the gospel and scripture memorization.
