I graduate in May, and really have no idea where I'm going after that. No jobs have surfaced yet, and I just could use prayer and advice as I try to start the rest of my life. I would love to get a job coaching basketball, or anything in college athletics. Or even High School athletics. Any prayer is appreciated, any ideas or advice are appreciated, and whatever else you guys do is appreciated. Thanks.

Lefty, if you're looking for ideas, I always tell students unsure about their future to consider graduate school.

If I wasn't already in a good amount of student debt, I would love to continue my education.

If you can get a teaching assistantship, you can go to school for free and even get paid for doing it. That's what I did at Marshall in '84.

I hadn't really considered that, even tho I knew it was available. I guess I would pursue it, if I knew of an open opportunity.

graduate assistantship. it will pay for grad classes, and since you are still in school and will push back the student loans until you complete grad school. ncaa website is always posting GA jobs.

Is it too late to get in on something like that?

If not, I'll probably pursue that.

No, most GA's aren't hired until March or April for the fall semester.

come apply at GSU we need another equip GA. and we're interviewing. Chris an LU alumn might need some help and he does all our olympic sports. pm or call/text me and i'll let you know more. I'm working as a GA and getting my school paid for and getting paid. its the best way to go to grad school in my opinion.

When I did my grad assistantship for two years, I wasn't hired until late July. A lot of GA positions aren't even posted on the NCAA website until May and summer, so still plenty of time. When I graduated I had three interviews for post grad internships (hiring process is just about the same as GA spots) - two D1s, one D2 - and the phone interviews weren't until mid July.

Our tennis teams should may or may not have a GA position coming open. Just keep your eyes peeled for postings. And I agree with the above statements, a GA or teaching assistant position is the best way to go through grad school.

Also, my agency currently has job postings available:
http://jobs.virginia.gov
Look for Dept. of Rehabilitative Services and then you should see a Unit Technician position available for the DDS division in Roanoke. Doesn't pay as good as an analyst, which that position will be posted later.

I'm going to need to take some sort of standardized test to get into Grad School, aren't I?

The GRE (Graduate Record Exam). There is both a general test and a subject test. Some grad schools want just the general test; others want both. Think SATs, but harder. The best way to study is to bone up on your math skills. For the verbal, either you have it or you don't.

It depends on the program you go into. Some places don't require it. They just require a certain GPA in your undergrad.

See, that's a problem for me. I'm going to have to pay to apply to grad school, and pay like 165 to take this test. That's more than I can afford at this point.

We'll see. I'd prefer to go somewhere that minimizes cost.

Plus, I haven't taken a Math Class since 2002.

I meet that for most places for non-MBA programs.

Also, High Point isn't doing the Masters in SMGT anymore.

I'm not interested in an MBA. I was just saying that, as a general rule, it seems MBA programs have higher standards, but that I meet the standards of non-MBA programs.
