Prayers for the newborn nephew of one of our athletes

I am ashamed I did not think of posting this until now, but the grandson of my wife's best friend here in town, was born early last week, with an unformed lung and other health issues. The baby's name is Kaden, and he is on a machine that he can only be on for 14 days called an ECMO. The baby and family are in Tennessee.

Please pray for this newborn and his family, and extended family. The uncle is an LU athlete I will not name, but please be with him, his Mom, and his step-father during this tough time, as well.

My prayers are that God will lay His hand on this infant and will heal him...and that He may lay His hands on the care givers that they may use their knowledge and skills to save the infant...and that God may grant the family comfort during this difficult time.

The prayers must be working. I got an update last night. The baby has had internal bleeding from the surgery which was complicating things...and it spontaneously stopped! The nurses could not explain it...but the grandmother has no doubt that it is an example of God's intervention. Please continuing praying.

Update on Kaden, from his grandmother:
they are taking Kaden off ECMO today…..in just about 2 hours.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
He was doing well this morning and the doctors believe that this is their only window of opportunity…..they will take him off and either Kaden will do well with the help of the ventilator or he won't. They will not place him back on ECMO.
Please pray that the baby will have the strength to breath and survive on his own...as this is his only chance. Also, please pray for the mother and father to seek peace, no matter what God's will turns out to be.

Thanks for all your prayers. The fact Kaden has made it this long is testament they work.

Today's email from our player's Mom (the grandmother):
Kaden is 16 days old!!!

I truly stand amazed in the presence of the Almighty God……As I write this I am wiping tears off my cheeks, nose, chin……..The doctors have told us that Kaden is a true miracle baby. They had only given this child a 10-20% chance of living more than a week, and then when they took him off ECMO, they did not think that he would live longer than a day. Well, my grandson is a fighter!!!!!!!!

Kaden came through the surgery to take him off ECMO with flying colors. He has a feeding tube in place now so they are starting to give him the colostrum from Elyse and then will progress to breast milk. Her doctor said that she didn’t need to pump, but a wonderful nurse told her the same thing I did- Kaden is going to need that from you. That shows that the doctor had no faith that Kaden was going to make it.

He has been taken off of 2 of the 6 medications that he is on, and he is doing well. It was such a blessing to me this morning when I talked with my son. The hopelessness in his voice is gone….he kept saying that the prayers are working and that Kaden is doing just what the doctors want him to.

There is one area of concern and that is his oxygen sate rate…..it is lower than what they like to see, and they are still trying to get the blood vessels to his lung opened more. However he is doing well. It is still a day-by-day thing, with only one lung. But God has brought Kaden sooo far already, and so we just lay this at His feet as well.
This is a HUGE praise...as the infant has but one lung...with the one he has operating at about 70%. Please pray that God continues to work this miracle.

PLEASE CRANK UP YOUR PRAYERS...
...as I just got this update:
Kaden is not doing well at all today. The doctor is putting the chest tubes back in, and Kaden has been placed back on all his medications. Dr. Yang said that if there is not improvement today or tomorrow that Kaden is not going to make it. The medical staff feels that they have exhausted all their efforts, and Kaden is suffering from acute pulmonary hypertension that is not being resolved.

This morning's email is testament that God hears and answers prayers:
The past two days have been filled with exciting new developments for Kaden. God is restoring him day by day. Last night as I went to bed I just wept. Thank you God for giving us Kaden back. Thank you Lord for your mercy, your faithfulness, your promises of being good and true. Words cannot describe my gratitude for what the Lord has done.

Right now, Kaden is back to the level he was at prior to being taken off the meds. Everyday is another miracle! He has such a long way to go , but we know that God is right in the midst. He is giving Mike and Elyse such a wonderful peace. Of course that is most likely due to Kaden having two really good days, but it is so moving for me to talk with Mike and hear HOPE in his voice. I am so amazed at how well he is doing at this time and I am so very hopeful that it will be God’s will to continue to heal Kaden in the coming weeks.

I have always believed in the power of prayer, but seeing God use His people to intercede for Kaden’s life has touched me in so many ways. I believe God is not done using Kaden for His glory.
Praise to God for His grace and healing touch.

It is with sadness and tears I relay information from an email I just received:
It is with a heavy heart that I let you know of Kaden's passing yesterday afternoon. At 5:41pm Kaden went from the arms of his mommy to the arms of Jesus. Elyse and Mike were able to have him to themselves for the last 20 minutes of his life free from all the tubes and wires and machines.

Kaden had been doing so well , and I e-mailed everyone telling them of how wonderful the progress was that Kaden was making. However, he developed a severe infection on Saturday and his heart just could not handle the infection and the pulmonary hypertension. So, while I have prayed for God's will to be done at all times, I am finding it bittersweet to know that God chose to take Kaden back with Him.
Thanks to this group for all the prayers. The fact that young Kaden was able to battle as long as he did is testament of God's mercy and grace. Please continue to pray for the parents, family members, and friends.
