Rick Warren = Joel Osteen

About the only difference is if you were to punch RW in the face he may come clean that you have to be saved in order to go to heaven while Joel wouldnt know what answer you were looking for

I had a giant of a mentor in my life who used to tell us, "Be a friend of those who are friends of Christ."

I completely agree with that, heck even if they dont "love Christ" we should love them, befriend them. However, I think that we should be careful and not become apart of what they do.

If I was a Pastor and Obama called me to pray and did NOT put stipulations on things I could say, I'd be there in a heart beat b/c that's a great opportunity. I think it would be our duty as a Christian/pastor to be there! If he told me I was not allowed to say certain things then I would simply tell him I still support him as my leader, will pray for him daily, pray for his guidance...however I'll have to politely decline due to his stipulations. I could not compromise God's word to be apart of his moment.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE Keep in mind this whole time (and please read back so you can understand) I'm playing what if scenario's and most of my rants this entire time was 90% of RW's recent decisions and not this one, simply b/c this one hasnt played out yet and RW could conduct a powerful prayer causing thousands to seek out further what he meant by saying things like "God's love and forgiveness and we are all sinners"

The president has a mess in front of him. Unfortunately, I don't think he can solve the problems we're facing. The problems we're having in the Middle East, the problems of natural resources and global warming, are beyond any one person. It's going to take God sending his son back to redeem this world.
Interesting. I haven't really heard Franklin Graham preach a lot, but I wonder if he preaches on eschatology with this much detail. This is a pretty revealing quote.

Good link Sly

Q: should Rick Warren pray in the name of Jesus at the inaugural?

Franklin Graham: I would hope he does because he's a minister of the gospel. There's no other way to pray. A Muslim should not be offended. [Warren] has no other way to pray than in the name of Christ. No one should be offended, because Rick Warren should be who Rick Warren is, and that's a minister of Jesus Christ.

All kinds of good quotes in this article, especially when he says, "President Bush was sued because I prayed in the name of Jesus. Eventually that suit was thrown out."

I find that mind boggling that someone would sue.

It was quite the major stink when Dubya was sworn in the first time. It was pointed to by the left as evidence that Dubya was trying to install a form of theocracy in Washington. Eight years later it is even funnier than at the time.

You knew that would be the case...but like I said and then Franklin said that is what his beliefs are instilled in so theres really no way to get around it if he's going to pray

So Obama's reaching out to evangelicals with Rick Warren was definitely heartfelt, right? The country's first gay bishop will be delivering the invocation at the inauguration.

He's just playing the politician role that managed to get him all the way to the White House. No surprise at all.

This may cause a brief crisis for gay atheists everywhere.

Or better yet, a media battle between atheists and gays, that would rule.

that is why he is in the perfect situation...if things get better he will look good...if things get worse (like he keeps saying they will), well its Bush's fault for screwing everything up...its a win/win situation for him
