The Ceremony was very nice today. There was a huge turnout. Plenty of people from LU, LC and Heritage HS. Were there any other FF'ers there today?

BTW...both Jeff's son and wife spoke....it was very nice.

Love CJ's idea of a preseason matchup. I hate to hash this out publicly but I think it would be super cool if perhaps the Hillcats could sponsor a night at City Stadium where LU & LC meet up on the field with proceeds from tickets going to the scholarship fund. It would be a great way to bring the two communities together in a very fitting tribute.

So every time I get a trade in fantasy baseball I think of FR because he was giving me advice.

Sly, a neutral setting like City Stadium would be perfect for such an event. Having Jeff's wife throw out the first pitch would be a great way to honor him.

Lots of LU faculty & staff there today at the funeral. I counted at least a dozen. The entire LC baseball team was seated together in the front right, wearing long sleeve white shirts & ties, khakis, and their short sleeve baseball warm up jersey over top.

Jeff's cousin and aunt spoke, as well. His female cousin read excerpts of letters from Jeff's grandpa about when Jeff was only 4 or 5 years old. His aunt spoke about how there was this call-in sports trivia radio contest every morning before Jeff went to school, and EVERY morning he would call in and get the correct answer, winning a free breakfast at the local Dairy Queen (which explains his Quiz Bowl prowess at LU).

Then LU's trainer BS told a lot of funny stories about Jeff (almost like a roast), but the best one involved how Jeff thought he lost his car at an amusement park in California, which caused the entire audience to break out in laughter. Great story, BS.

As we know, FR was a professor in the Athletic Training Program. I think that we, as a FlameFans community, ought to get together and create a scholarship in his name, and have it awarded to an outstanding athletuc training student who exhibits the characteristics both on and off the field that made him such a joy to be around.
I love the idea. Man, I feel so sorry for his family.

If there was ever an event that brought the LC & LU families together, it was Jeff's death. I wish somehow the powers that be could agree to play an LU-LC preseason baseball scrimmage and name it after Jeff. He and his boy would have loved that.
This is a phenomenal idea.

I will push for this at the next board meeting....there is no way they could say no....the only hurdles would be LU wanting to play a D3 school. I will make sure there is no problems on the Hillcats end though

Hillcats won't have a problem. They always like having LC play at least one game to give some of their game day people a practice run to make sure everything is working and what not.

If the DIII scares em. LU should at a minimum be willing to do a pre-season game.

Also, if anyone has direct contact with Jeff Jr let him know that one of the Pirates front office guys is in town for a few more days and would like to have him come out and take BP with the team and talk with him for a bit. Shoot me a PM if you can get in touch with him and I will set it up

libertymom wrote:I am writing as a friend of Jeff Taylor's widow, Mary Clare. She is so grateful and appreciative for all of your thoughts and prayers. Arrangements have not been made yet, but we are hoping that the services will be on Saturday at Heritage United Methodist Church on Leesville Road. As soon as plans are finalized I will post that info here.

Mary Clare was so honored to read about several of you wanting to start a scholarship for a student in Athletic Training. She was trying to decide what to do in lieu of flowers, and you helped her make a wise decision. She will be in touch with someone at LU Wednesday to make her wishes known and to see how to get this started. If any of you have any insights, suggestions or can help with that, please reply. If anyone has info please contact Mary Clare at 434-238-2885 or 434-582-1946.

Again, thank you for all of your prayers...keep them coming.

HMO...here is his wife's contact info...

I just want to add my deepest sympathies & condolences to the family. What a terrible thing to have to fight through.
Knew Fumble only through FF, but thank God he professed Christ, so no worries about him. Prayers for wife & son, and
it is great to see FF stepping up in ways that the family will never, ever, forget.

So, I gave it a week.

it's still weird to come here and no longer see new posts from FR, but ya gotta believe he's still reading! I like to think that, anyway.

probably not theologically sound.

I was very glad to be able to go down and spend a tiny part of Friday night with Jeff's mom, MrsFR and Jr- what a wonderful family. Sorry I couldn't make it Saturday but it just wasn't to be. I was truly amazed to see the diverse range of people attending- Jeff touched so many people's lives . A great tribute to a good man.

Pleased about the scholarship too- it will ensure he's always remembered.

I think of Jeff everyday and pray for comfort for the family. God bless you all.

Yesterday I was over on North Campus and ran into the chairman of Fumble's department. He had Custom T's stitch the following in thick black lettering on the red stoles that the Athetic Training majors will we wearing at graduation this year:

J
E
F
F

T
A
Y
L
O
R

And on the other side of the stole it will list the year, 2009.

CJ- great job with the stoles. Would love to see that.

This is still hard to see at the top of the page.

I count the blessings every day for the time I get to spend with my wife and family every day. Let's not forget to pray for Jeff's family and that they would continue to seek the Lord for their strength in even the toughest of times.

BJ, I've thought of several ways to honor Fumble through our Quiz Bowl team:

1. we have already retired his jersey and given his red Quiz Bowl polo to his Mrs. Fumble.
2. our annual faculty scrimmage will be renamed the Jeff Taylor Memorial Faculty Scrimmage.
3. the high scorer on our Quiz Bowl team each year will receive a "Taylor trophy".
