I'm headed in a few hours to West Virginia (no jokes--I know I have all of my teeth) to interview for a position at a church. Please pray for me that everything goes well. Thanks!

Praying and hoping you stay on the paved road. What town in the church in?

The town is in the Vienna/Parkersburg area. Really nice...not what we expected.

They flew us here which was even better. The interview was extensive but we knew that they weren't flying us here to play pattycake. I think it went well and we've enjoyed our visit, so we'll be praying that God would call us if it's His will.

Thanks for the prayers. I really appreciate them!

You are almost in Ohio there. So the WV aspect is negligible, eh CJ?

TDDance, that's my neck of the woods, just 30 miles north of my parents' house in Ravenswood, WV. Parkersburg was actually the town we used to drive to for dates: I remember when the Grand Central Mall was first built there in P-burg, and that's where I attended my first and only rock concert--Wild Cherry was "Playing That Funky Music" at Parkersburg High School in 1977.

Parkersburg is a river town, just like Lynchburg, and you're just across the river from the Ohio towns of Belpre and Marietta (where my brother lives). And you won't hear any dueling banjos in that part of the state.

Small world...my grandparents live in Belleville...we used to go to Ravenswood all the time to go swimming...also spent a bunch of time on the river as well. Absolutely beautiful country.

I used to have family in Marietta and my high school used to beat Belpre in the basketball playoffs all the time.

Parkersburg does have indoor plumbing so it is a big step up from most of the state.

Henry, I hope your grandparents used to take you fishing at the Belleville locks: my dad used to take me there when I was a boy to fish. Yes, Sly, Parkersburg has indoor plumbing, but I'm not so sure about all the farm houses on the Ohio side of the river--ironic, isn't it? Parkersburg has an historic downtown and a nice boat cruise over to Blennerhassett Island.

Is the position asst pastor, youth leader, etc? I hope it works for you and yours

No...believe it or not...we never went fishing at the locks. There were cricks running all through their property, so there were plenty of fishing opportunities within a bike ride, so we never had to go to the locks to fish. Whenever we were on the river, it was just on my uncles boat. I spent countless days in Belleville as my moms brothers lived there as well. So there were plenty of cousins to play with all summer. Those were good times. I have not been back in at least 6 or 7 years.

I'll bet they have big catfish at those locks. I know I caught some big daddys at the Greenup Dam locks a little further downstream.

Oh yeah, I'm looking forward to hearing the updates from Parkersburg.

Back when the Silver Bridge collapsed in 1967 in the Moth Man country of Point Pleasant, WV (one hour south of Parkersburg), there were reports of divers seeing man-sized catfish in the Ohio River. But don't let the Moth Man legend scare you away from taking the job in P-burg. :P

Quick update for those wondering and praying still: I've been extended the call to join the church as Student Pastor.

Just a few formalities and everything should be set in stone. I appreciate all your prayers!
