I saw a brand new Nissan Armada with a 35-40 year old man in some very nice clothes on the phone, most likely negotiating some million dollar deal, with a flames club sticker on the back window. This is what I like to see.

Naw, that had to be Barber, they both drive Armada's but I believe only Barber has the sticker, not to mention he lives out that way and Dunton doesnt

Rocco also has the Armada but he still lives in C'ville.

So did LU give away some Armadas to the athletic program or what? Or did they each kick a feild goal at halftime and get one courtesy of Lynchburg Nissan? What's Carey Green driving? A Z car?

We have a deal w/ Lynchburg Nissan. The owner is an alum and you may notice that they advertise quite heavily through the sports programs.

that's why I referenced the field goal at half time. Also, does this deal apply to me? A fan such as myself driving an Armada or Titan would be great advertisment. Think about it. I'll even go for that van even though I think it's the ugliest vehicle in history.

I remember doing remotes at Lynchburg Nissan back in the Late 80s when they would give away junkers. People would ine up around the block to "win" these pieces of scrap metal. Now that was either shrewd marketing or a glaring indictment on the fine folk of Lynchburg. Perhaps it was both.
Hijacking complete ... now return to your previously schedule discussion of Armadas.

Funny. The field goal at half-time thing back-fired on them during the '00 Football Season. I knew the guy who won the opportunity to kick the field goal and made it from something like 50 yards away...nailed it. They dug into his past looking for ways to get out of it, they tried to disqualify him because he played a couple of years of rec league soccer when he was like 9 years old. In the end, however, they made good with their promise and he landed a brand new frontier.

On the subject of past promotions...anybody won the Hummer yet? Wasn't that a few years ago, they sold a few tickets, but I never heard of them ever giving it away??? It was one of Prototype's first promotions.
Anybody heard from Proto in a while?
Bueller....

The companies offering thes ebig prizes take out insurance policies based on the odds of success. I'm guessing it was the insurance company trying to find a way not to pay. I'm guessing that was the case with the kick. If there was a policy in place, I'm sure Lynchburg Nissan was as thrilled as the guy who made it because it didn't cost them any more and the publicity was outstanding.

I am pretty sure the guy that runs Lynchburg Nissan/Mitsubishi/Isuzu/etc never graduated from college. Talke about making good!!
As for the 00 promotion, the rub to that one was they did not take out INSURANCE. Oopps. That means the cost of the car came out of thier pocket. Considering the last field goal kicker the year before I think actually had NEGATIVE yards they thought it was a good bet!! guess not
Hummer? I was gonna buy tix b/c the odds were so good to win one. I believe they "cancelled" the promotion and made "alternate" arraingements for those who purchased the tickets.

yeah the hummer promotion went over like a lead balloon....nobody cared
I had a friend who won a Maxima, and it didnt have AC....they pleaded to pay extra to upgrade to one with but they wouldn't budge....I didn't know this but if a car came out without an AC you cant add it...so that sucked when it was June July & August

Classic. I love it. There needs to be a Hall of Fame for people like that. We should rename this thread "LU promotions gone bad"
I remember a few years ago we had some kids doing the "Dress Up"promo where they put on shoes uni etc. and they were so slow the teams had to wait for them before they could start play again!

Yeah the kid that won the Maxima w/out a AC, deserved it... I couldn't stand him... it should have came w/o an engine and they should have just give him the shell of the car!!!!!!

This reminds me of an incident my soph year. It was 1994 and laptops were just coming out so they cost like $3000 apiece and LU ran a drawing during to win a free one announced in convo. On Monday morning, the first guy's name called (Joey something) was a YouthQuest singer who lived on my hall. Unfortunately, he wasn't there and the prize went to somebody else.
It turned out that he had signed out for the weekend to his parents' house but, when our RAs called the kid's home to basically laugh at him, it turned out that he wasn't there either. In actuality, he had shacked up w/ his girlfriend for the weekend at a hotel in Va Beach. Needless to say, he was out of YouthQuest after that and left school entirely shortly thereafter. Winning that drawing was just about the worst thing he could have done.

Some might say shacking up for the week was the worst thing he could have done. Not me though!
