If true, is it just Best Buy or is it all stores statewide? I heard it was just through Saturday.

Yes it is the entire store of Best Buy, but not all other stores. Anything you want to buy in preparation for hurricane season is tax free such as batteries, flashlights, etc. I don't know how Best Buy is getting by with it being the whole store. Perhaps they are paying the tax on the other items.

Does this really make you want to shop more? It doesnt faze me, I still feel like I'm paying 100 times more than from Abesofmaine.com or Ecost.com or even buy.com

The EnergyStar tax holiday worked out perfectly for me replacing a water heater last week. I'll embrace the savings when it is convenient.

Something like that is not practical to buy online so I see why it would help you....I didnt know it was a Energy Star tax holiday...does that mean anything with the Energy Star is not getting taxed and everything else is?

That was the case last weekend but I am not sure if it is over yet.

Can't be just hurricane supplies...yesterday I bought a memory card for my camera...no tax on that. They said it runs through the 31st.

All stores statewide is on hurricane preparedness items including the aforementioned batteries and flashlights, generators under $1,000 and bottled water (I'm taking advantage of the tax-free bottled water, haha). Best Buy is just eating the cost on all their items it seems.

I believe it is at Best Buy only, and in the state of VA.

Its the more efficient way for governments to collect revenues as opposed to income taxes. I live in Texas, one of the homes of no state income tax (along with Alaska, Florida, Nevada, South Dakota, Washington & Wyoming).

I'd much rather pay sales tax than state income tax. Unfortunately, we have both here in Michigan!!

Actually Tennessee (along with New Hampshire) only has a modified plan where you pay taxes on dividends and interest. The states I listed are the only ones without any state income tax.

It is a significant detail if investments are a portion of your income.

Isn't the state tax in VA about 4%? That is not worth buying anything just to buy it. 4 dollars on every 100 spent is not a bargain. They could easily raise the price 5% of everything and it wouldn't even look like it. You still have to compare prices. I think this sale is not that attractive.
