Look what good ole Wikipedia says about our fair city:
An estimated 8,300 Virginians were sterilized and relocated to Lynchburg, known as a "dumping ground" of sorts for the feeble-minded, poor, blind, epilectic, and those somehow otherwise seen as genetically "unfit"

Except for the fact that it was technically Madison Heights that is unfortunately pretty much true. It refers of course to "The Colony", the remnants of which are now the Central Virginia Training Center.

We actually studied about that when I was taking a History of Ed. course at UVa, and there's even a documentary film about it that we watched in class; yes, Olldflame, it happened in Madison Heights in Amherst County, VA.
