Congratulations ALUMNI! Nice ceremony...and don't forget to...

...get a copy of the book on your way out of town.

The sad thing is that I already bought the book off Amazon... for less than $20.

I bought the book last night and have read 60 pages so far. Dr. Godwin is right: you will read stories about JF that you had never heard before, and I've been in Lynchburg since 1985. For example, you will learn why JF didn't get to speak at his high school graduation. I'd heard for years that it was due to a "prank," but Mrs. Falwell finally reveals what the prank was. And for only $20, you can find out, too.

For the record, I thought Chuck did a nice job and was much more interesting than a couple of the others we've had in recent years. The weather was also great and it is apparent to me the students love JJ as the Chancellor.

Pimping that book out really made me not happy. That was not the place for that. Sorry for being selfish, but give us graduation. Do your promoting somewhere else. It's enough that you told us about it at practice and on Friday night.

I agree...I didn't feel it was appropriate. Chuck was also a great speaker, so real and genuine...didn't really get that sense from Newt last year (my sister completed her BS in Nursing, so thats what I was there). JJ is also proving himself to be a great chancellor. I am really excited about the directoin LU as a whole is going.

I really like that Chuck Norris gave a personal speech and not some boring prepared speech. It meant more hearing a personal experience like that.

Did Chuck Norris really stay around and get some pictures taken with graduates or not?

I did think that Chuck Norris spoke from his heart, and was very humble and honest, which I appreciated.

I personally didn't get pics with Chuck, but some I overheard some grads talking about how they managed to shake his hand and get his autograph.

I thought that Chuck was great; he was succinct and spoke from the heart. Perfect.

I got a picture with him. It was only supposed to be a select few but people bombarded him with it after commencement.

Ed, I wish I remembered you'd be there. I would've looked you up at North in between had I remembered you would've been here.

I'm pretty sure Godwin just got up and did that. It wasn't on the plan for him to speak

That bugged me. That still bugs me. A lot.

I understand that a number of faculty members were put off by him doing that today and at baccalaureate, as well.

I heard Jr. say at the lunch afterwards that he was about to jerk Godwin back to his seat with a cane when he got up to do that.
I don't think Godwin was supposed to be up there, he just jumped up and did it.

Godwin does what he wants when he wants.

I was going to DVR the ceremony for Walker's speech but forgot. Any idea if it will be posted online?

I doubt it. They will be selling copies of graduation, so I doubt it gets up online anywhere. You can order a copy, I believe.

The Godwin thing was weak. It was actually pretty embarassing.

Chuck Norris tells Liberty University grads to follow God’s path

Saturday was the first time that television star Chuck Norris ever addressed a college graduation, but Liberty University Chancellor Jerry Falwell Jr. said it wouldn’t be his last.

“I don’t do this very often,” Norris told a crowd of about 20,000 at Williams Stadium. “In fact, I don’t do this at all.”

Norris delivered the keynote address at Liberty’s 35th commencement, which featured the school’s largest graduating class yet of about 4,800 students.

“Chuck! Chuck! Chuck!” the graduates chanted as he walked on stage. They were the ones who convinced Falwell to request Norris as their speaker, Falwell said.

The six-time world karate champion, actor, Internet phenomenon and humanitarian offered a piece of his own life story and said that God brought happiness back into his life.

It wasn't on the prompter in the list of people speaking... I don't think he could handle just sitting there and never saying a word the whole time...

Oh yea, the "diploma" they gave us as we walked across the stage was an Alumni Affairs piece of paper telling us how we could give back.

That is better than what was on mine...mine said something along the lines of "your diploma is on hold, pending the grades of classes you are currently taking" Well....yea....summer school followed...

Oh, and Godwin's, "You can't consider yourself a friend of Liberty without this book" line was absolutely priceless. I wanted Chuck Norris to stand up and round house the used car salesman smirk right of his face.
