Liberty University aviation program hopes to bring more planes to the airport



When it comes to creating new jobs in Lynchburg, the sky's the limit. Liberty University is expanding its aviation program to become one of the largest flight schools in the nation.

Stand by the runway at Lynchburg's Regional Airport and you'll see plenty of traffic coming in. But the people behind Liberty University's aviation program want to see even more planes landing here.

"We see Lynchburg airport and all the resources we have available here as offering an opportunity," says David Young with Liberty University Aviation.

wow, one of the largest flight schools in the nation. That's pretty cool. I would think our pushing would be to see some bigger rigs landing here.

It really is a good program, one of my friends majored in aviation and graduated in 2006. He is now flying for American Eagle Airlines and is based out of Boston.

Stories like this about LU's programs, have me shaking my head to see how far LU had grown from nothing to this. God is good!

LU aeronautics building proposed at Lynchburg Regional Airport

Liberty University officials on Thursday dedicated the site of a future LU School of Aeronautics training facility at Lynchburg Regional Airport.

Thursday’s ceremony also served as the official kickoff of a $10 million fundraising drive to finance the new 56,000-square-foot building, airplanes and support facilities.

A cornerstone of dedication was placed at the site.

The School of Aeronautics, the 10th school authorized at LU, hopes to one day have the facilities to train between 300 and 350 students pilots per year.
