Comcast Internet?

Anyone out there use their internet service. In my part of town, Verizon High speed is not an option due to "older phone lines", so Comcast may be my only option. Currently, we have wireless broadband from Ntelos, but it is more like "medium speed" and we need something faster.

Read & acknowledged, Fumble, but I'm of no help to you, since I'm still using the LU dial-up.

Actually...I had not checked with Verizon in a couple of years...
..it appears it is NOW available at our address. Yeah...going from about 250 kbps to a potential of 1.5 MBps for $5 more a month. I'm there!

Comcast sucks at every single thing they do.

That was my worry...folks don't call it Comcrap for nothing.

I use Comcast here in Philly, and although the internet is fast, it's overpriced, and the customer service is TERRIBLE.
They missed my original appointment, and it took over 48 hours to get the service installed. I'm still trying to fight the
installation charge, since they have an "on-time guarantee".

Avoid at all costs.

don't believe the speeds they say you can get, it's impossible. even at 3 am in the morning when hardly anyone is online (relative to other times, that is) it still doesn't come anywhere close to achieving the speeds they say it is capable of doing.

Jet broadband is in our area. They cost 29.99 for 1.5 mps i think. is that a decent price? i've heard that they have bad internet coverage, so i am checking with verizon to see where the better deal is.

The fast speeds they talk about are available...for an extra $10 a month on top of the already-expensive service they charge. If Verizon FiOS was available
in my area (and it soon will be, thank God), I never would have considered Comcast.

We're still about 23 years away from FiOS in Lynchburg. By that time it will be the equivolent of dial up.

I have Comcast, and it moves pretty well...but every month I have bill trouble and had serious connection issues when I first got it.

do any of you know the difference in 1.5 mps and 3? will it be a significant difference, its supposedly double but i doubt that there is actually much difference, can anyone verify that?

I've got 1.5, and like I said it moves ok...takes about 2 1/2 minutes for me to pirate a song. Though I agree with others on this board...go with someone else if possible.

like i said before, comcast isn't available for me, its jet broadband which is probably even worse. For some reason, even though hurricane fan lives down the road and he has verizon, they say they don't offer to me. That makes no sense though because i could throw a rock and hit his house, and i am closer to the main road. so i guess my only option is 29.99 for 1.5 through jet broadband. I guess when you have a monopoly you can get away with bad internet at high prices

$29.99 really isn't a bad price at all, especially if it's not bundled with cable. For me, I'm ready for FIOS to be available...

after calling verizon now i find out their website is wrong and i can get it. there's is 39.99 for 3 mps. that is the same price i was quoted at cable, so from what you guys have said i should go with verizon?

No complaints Re: Comcast Internet here. I used to have their standard service (something like $42.95 I think) and it was blazingly fast. Now I have their Economy service (about $24.95 per month I think) and it's more comparable to DSL. If I need something blazingly fast for a large download, I'll leech my neighbor's wireless for a little while (usually late night/early morning so they [hopefully] don't notice).

Well...got my VERIZON HIGH SPEED a couple days ago. Much faster than the Ntelos Wireless Broadband. Thanks for the advice about Comcast.

We are all comcast in Seattle--HD cable and internet and have no problems with them or their service. I see their trucks every weekend in my large planned community. They come on time and are fine. I'm very happy with the net speed.

Go here and tell us what readings you're getting

I just got 56.7Mbps download and 4.06 Mbps upload. I wish I could say that I was at home.
