I apologize if this has already been posted, but I didn't see it. Did anyone else find this article and it's presence on the front page of the Sunday paper odd?

In addition to academic responsibilities that are typical at colleges, The Liberty Way also requires students to live a “chaste, honorable and virtuous life,” or be punished accordingly.
Don't read the comments, they'll tick you off!

Front page of the Sunday paper......that tells volumes about our local fishwrap. So pathetic. "hey, let's try to embarrass the only place where we get any news from!"

“We promise the parents when the students come here that we will be sort of surrogate parents for four years,” said Chancellor Jerry Falwell Jr. “That’s one of the things that makes Liberty unique.”
I don't want liberty acting as "surrogate parents' for my 2 sons at liberty.

So the question is what was the REAL purpose for them to do this story?
I personally think it was a clear knock at the "goofy little Christians with the weird rules".

Why write it though? It did nothing but give the people who hate LU an opportunity to say things about us and show how much they hate us. It did nothing positive.

Yea, did you read the comments?
They didn't mean it as a positive and they got the negative they were dredging for.

You can get fined $250 dollars and have to serve 18 hours of community servicec just for cussing? Does that seem a bit extreme to anyone else on here?
What would they do if a LU student had a facebook friend from UVA and the UVA kid posted a mesage on their wall that has a cuss word in it?

They would get fined just the same. The LU administration is obviously a mindless cyborg that can't reason.

If I were to say effin crap instead of f****** s***, why would effin crap not be against the rules? You are just substituting two words to get the same point across, so in essence the words accomplish exactly what you wanted the vulgar phrase to accomplish...

OK, the comments are absurd but I don't have a problem with the article itself. I don't see any conjecture or misrepresentations of fact in there and I don't see anything taken out of context. It looks to me like a pretty fair description of the rules, the students and the university. So what's the problem?

I agree with your point. There is nothing wrong with the article on the surface. But why and why now?

As any good conspiracy theorist can see...its all about turning local public sentiment against LU to get them to call their councilman to vote against the Future Land Use Map and 5-year expansion plan.

Why not and why not now? Slow news day? Reporter's quota? This same writer, Christa Desret, has written a number of articles on LU and its associated growth within the last year or two -- most of which were posted on FlameFans with considerably less uproar.

RTF, I posted it here to see if anyone else thought it was odd, and obviously several did. If you didn't that's cool. I'm not mad, but I do see an agenda at work!

I don't see an agenda. I see a "what's the point?"
