new restaurant: Jersey Mike's Subs

According to a flyer in the local fishwrap, Lynchburg has a new option for sub sandwiches: Jersey Mike's. According to the flyer, the chain has been around since 1956 and has 350 location nation-wide and claim that they have been "voted Best Sub thoughout the Country."

According to the map, it looks like they are on the LU side of 29 South across the Wal-mart. Their menu includes a Grilled Pastrami Reuben, which looks like their best sub IMO but they also offer 3 different versions of cheese steaks--Jersey Mike's Famous Philly, Chipolte Cheese Steak, & Big Kahuna cheese Steak.

Now the question for my friends north the Mason-Dixon line (Medic, Scar, etc): have any of you eaten at Jersey Mike's before and, if so, how do their subs compare to Subway, Quizno's, Yellow Submarinee, Sub Connection?

Have you really never heard of Jersey Mike’s? Man, I thought they were all over the place, at least they are around Richmond. They are good, but I like Subway or Quizno’s better. I saw it up there on Saturday over near the coldstone. It looked like it was already open.

Never heard of it. I looked at their menu like a week ago and it looked pretty weak.

Although I am the one always complaining about nobody around here having a decent pastrami sandwich.

Jersey Mikes is so much better than Subway it's not even funny. They don't used packaged meat like Subway does. They slice the meat for sandwiches in front of you like a real sandwich shop. They actually put a decent amount of meat on the sandwich too as opposed to Subway. Their six inch subs are true six inches and not the four inch crap that Subway gives.

AGREED. we had jersey mike's in raleigh and those subs are really good. roanoke had one a few years ago but it closed. i hope the burg gets it. i think it's better than subway or quiznos. the bread is really good.

The 'burg IS getting one. The building's already got its name on it and everything.

I think he meant he hopes we "get it". Like Roanoke didn't get it, so it went out of business.

Jersey Mike's is OK ... I agree it is a step up from Subway. But I'd put it a notch down from Quiznos, Lennys, Schlotzkys and Jasons Deli.

I think Quizno's is terrible. I've never eaten at one that I've liked.

get a chicken carbonera or whatever it's called. It's delicious. It's just not worth the $8 or whatever it will cost you.

Quiznos is ok but the Carbonara is the best! That is the only thing I get from there....Jersey Mikes is good though if you get a #13. I use it to fill my Philly Hoagie craving and MoJo's for my cheesesteaks here in Richmond. I saw that Da Burg is getting one when I was in town on Monday. Pretty cool.

Jersey Mike's are all over the place down here. I just recently started going and they're a huge step above Subway. I think it should go over well in Lynchburg. Everything is very fresh. The only problem I have with them is their choice of cheese: provolone or nothing at all. That being said, definitely give them a shot. I still prefer Firehouse Subs but that's on another level.

I ate there quite a bit...& at the one in Knightdale. Their subs are huge & they don't skimp on the meat like some other sub places. I agree with SCAR about the #13.

we have one in mebane and its good. its expensive, but much better than subway for the reasons SJ said. i hate quiznos. i've been there 3 times and its was bad all 3 times. we ate at jersey mike's on the UNCA trip and it was great. their philly is good in my opinion, compared to everything else around here at least.
it has had the sign on it for over a month. it is right near moes, down towards alltel.

I wasn’t being a smart-a smoothie, I was serious. I thought you didn’t know it was here definitely, and were stating you hoped the ‘burg would get a jersey mikes.
