In years past, less than 3 percent of Lynchburg’s college-aged residents have voted in city elections, but Liberty University officials hope to change that.
With an April 7 deadline to register to vote in the May 6 city election, the school hosted a voter registration drive Wednesday after its convocation service.
“It is important who’s serving in local government,” Liberty Chancellor Jerry Falwell Jr. said in an interview Tuesday. “It does impact what (students) pay in tuition because if Liberty is required to build public infrastructure, then that comes out of their tuition money.”
