More slanted "journalism"

A recent slam in an article on Sam Gado brought up yet another point that irritates me.

"Tiny Liberty University"

with 9600 on campus (?) . Guess they couldn't find those stats. A 2002 survey (the most recent I could find) of the 120 largest collegesshows that only the largest 54 schools in the country have more than 30k students.

So I find it odd that a school that has fully 1/3 the population of the 55th largest university in the country (W. Michigan) is considered "tiny".

(BTW- the largest school in the country is a community college, and the 5th largest isn't a school at all- its an online institution)

Other "TINY" Schools of note (undergrad only):

1. Villanova University (6300)
2. Lehigh University (4600)
3. Coastal Carolina (6020)
4. Duke University (6500)
5. Harvard University (6655)
6. Notre Dame University (8332)
7. University of Richmond (2976)
8. Wake Forest University (4128)
9. Boston College (8805)
10. Howard University (7025)

All smaller than LU, all way too "tiny", not worth your time to even consider them

Coastal's jumped to 7600 since 2002. Just thought I'd point out that schools are growing. We're expecting 3500 freshmen next year. I don't take that as tiny.

At least the writer didn't call the school LIBERTY BAPTIST COLLEGE. I'd really hate to see you guys' reactions then. You folks need to get rid of that small man's disease chip on your shoulder and just live with the folks' ingnorance of LU.

agreed A.G. i would dare say many know of LU only's as jerry falwell's school. at least he said liberty university. as we grow and improve academically and make some noise in football and mens hoops, then we may lose that small school tag. come on guys we are only in the big south. if we were in the big east and had that tag, then maybe i would be upset then.

So Wake is a "big school" because of the conf affiliation, and LU (even w/ 2x the student body of WF) is a "tiny" school because we're in the BSOUTH?

ohhhhh, ok. I obviously missed the point entirely. It wasn't shoddy journalism after all. 8)

Wake could be much bigger if they chose to. They don't wanna be a big school. You start talking about Wake you start talking about my back yard.

We're talking purely numbers here. The logic behind the decision to stay small isnt the issue. Obviously, we're no Harvard.

My point was that in 36 years I've never heard Wake, Duke, Harvard or any of the other 10 schools that I listed (ALL of which have smaller enrollments than LU) referred to as TINY.

My complaint is also not based on my or anyone's stature :D , just calling out bad/yellow journalism for what it is.

maybe he meant "tiny" in numbers we have sent to the NFL. it is really NBD...Im glad we got some good press. yes wake and duke are smaller than LU, but they are household names from a well known conference. how many people nationally could name 3 schools in the big south? i doubt you would find many.,we may get there down the road, but it should not be a really big deal. sure the writer could have did more homework. send him an email medic and make him take it back! :D
