Okay, so officially I am going to sound like a total retard / homeschooled brat but here we go
I wish RA's wrote more people up.
I wish our rules were more strict.
Heres my thinking. Im sitting in the CLAB on ff and typing a paper and looking around I see at least five people who are out of dress code (OMG
) There is a group of four people next to me chattin and within the past 10 minutes Ive heard girls swearing n talking about stuff they did last weekend (No it was not shopping
).
Before I keep venting understand that I in no way am saying I am perfect. I make way too many jokes I shouldnt, and many times I fall just as hard as anybody else. Anyone can say the rules are stupid and dumb but they are our rules and we are still required to follow all of them, regardless of how pointless they are.
RA's rarely and I mean rarely enforce the non moral rules put in the Liberty Way. Unfortunately they have been put in a position where they are supposed to enforce rules that in many ways cannot be enforced properly. The Hair code for men is what half way down the ears? How on earth are they supposed to do that? And as for dressing appropriately at the beginning of the year alot of guys got away with that in the beginning and now an RA cant confront someone without finding more people right next to them. For them I would imagine it just becomes pointless to talk to anyone, because they cant stop anyone from disobeying the rules. Speaking of RA's seriously no one ever respects them. Regardless of how anal they may be they are still our authority. And that may sound stupid but here at LU we just have a generated dislike for anyone who is an RA because theyre an RA and simply that.
There are at least 5 - 10 guys on my hall who I could guarentee when they sign out to their married sister's house thats not where they end up. Anybody can get away with anything but instead of us as Christian brothers and sisters stepping up and confronting each other about our struggles we continue to ignore them. Maybe its been like this for a really long time, but since I have been here this is what Ive noticed going on, specifically this year. Not that having a shirt with a collar means your super duper spiritual, because it doesnt. But the fact is if people no longer respect the small rules here, at some point they will most likely break the big ones too. More importantly though, if were breaking rules we are sinning, and in time drifting farther away from God in an environment that is "geared" to bring us closer.
Maybe this goes back to the question about whether LU is drifting away from its first goal, and although I dont think the change is ridiculously severe you can see a change in attitude toward discipline, at least at the bottom, maybe farther up as well. The people who are supposed to enact discipline should do their jobs, and we as students at LU ought to heed correction as opposed to just blowing it off. I have yet to find more than a couple of instances this year in which an RA was CLEARLY out of line. Our "over-zealous friend" was quick to confront, but so are good fathers. And until we look at them with the respect theyve earned and deserve, we will always have a thing against the rules and the people who enforce them.
I know I sound like that 5th grader who the teacher assigned to watch the class while shes gone, and I know what Ive said is laughable, but this is what Ive seen here at LU and I would like to hear your thoughts.
