LU must think they are Campbell County now, it's not even raining or anything outside right now...

Back in my day, this would have never happened.

As one who teaches 720 AM class...I really appreciate the advanced notice. I can use the extra sleep not having to get up at 615 to check the TV.

Got a prospective student who flew in from Texas to see me in the morning, so I'll be there for him, while the rest of you guys are sleeping in.
:welcome to LU!

Very good Cider! He must be a future Quiz Bowler!

It's also official LU has lost their mind! They close quicker than High Schools now!

Well, unless he had just decided everybody needed a long weekend regardless of the weather, I think JJ's face may be a little red right now.

its just a free day today with the weather doing nothing except a glazing of ice here and there.

This is bad news for one of my relatives who was supposed to be teaching today. Oh well.

I hope they learned their lesson, NEVER trust the weather man, NEVER. Wake up early and look out the window like every other self-respecting school administrator.

Man, this is just odd how things change. LU goes from not ever closing for anything, to closing the school the night before with the whisper of a chance of the wind blowing. Sad.

Clearly this will be a top notch candidate. Be sure to thoroughly impress this Texan. 8)

Hilarious. I remember waking up to six inches of snow and still having to drive in to school. Now they close based on forecasts.

i woke up at 10 am and looked outside and it looked like yesterday morning, and they had to close school for that??

Hopefully a lesson learned.

Now..........................................................if Jonathon ever cancels a church service, I expect JF to come out of his grave and personally administer the "board of education to the seat of learning!"

Wow!!!! I know ice is more dangerous than snow, but back in 2000 LU actually debated having school (before eventually canceling at like 9 or 10 a.m.) with almost 10 inches of snow on the ground. BTW, the night before they were calling for flurries.

This was a botched forecast, but to be fair, most meteorologist in my areas said it was a tough forecast. Due to the split flow of the jet stream and two strom tracks it was difficult to asses how far north one system would go and how far south the other one would go. I live 2.5 hours to the North and was on the edge of the northern spread of moisture. Forecast was for 1-3 inches and we got basically a dusting of snow and like 1/10th of an inch of freezing rain. Still, people were issuing cancelations last night.

Agree it is a lesson learned and decision makers should wait as long as possible before making calls on school and such. Had they not been calling for ice, I think there would have been very few cancelations today.

A 2-hour delay would've bought them time to cancel in the morning if conditions would've warranted it.

As someone who used to make a living for a time as a TV weather guy, I can tell you that I give their prognostications VERY little credence.

This is one of my favorite memories of LU. I acted like I was 10 all day and loved every minute of it.

On a side note, I still find it funny that people who PAY for their education want nothing to do with it. Someone once told me (come to think of it, it might have been Professor Putney) that "education is the only industry in which the consumer begs to be cheated."

That's funny, and mostly true. Was this the time LPD forced LU to close, saying they would cite anyone caught without chains or snow tires?
