It's election day here in Lynchburg. Time to shake up City Council and time for our indicted Mayor to leave. :D

let's remember he is innocent until proven guilty, however the evidence looks bad. who is running to replace him?

Everybody. Lynchburg residents do not directly elect their mayor. They elect the City Council and Lynchburg City Council elects one of its own members as mayor. Currently, there are, I believe, 3 spots on the council up for grabs and there are currently 12 candidates on the ballot.

Absolutely he's innocent until convicted, but I just think he should have stepped aside voluntarily just as he did with his church. It's been crazy the number of folks who decided to run for council this go around.

Whether or not he's criminally guilty, he should have resigned long ago. If his issues were directly related to his actions as mayor and he were maintaining his innocence, I could see him staying on to fight the good fight. However, since all of this had to do with the mismanagement of his personal and business affairs, it's been nothing but a distraction and black eye for the city.

Met candidate Jason Campbell when I went to vote. Didn't realize he went to LU.

Well now that our Mayor has been found guilty on all 7 charges, I wonder if he will do the right thing and step down. Hopefully he will put the city before his own interests and do so.

Excuse me while I rant:

I can only say one thing about Lynchburg's city government: the citizens of Lynchburg have the government they deserve! It boggles the mind that the people have been so "fed up" with the way things have been run and put so many new faces on the ballot only to re-elect two of the three bums that already occupied the seats! Even worse, the only one they didn't re-elect was otherwise occupied in Roanoke on Election Day being convicted of fraud charges! I realize that the large pool of candidates probably ended up splitting the vote but only 28% of Lynchburg's voters even bothered to show up! This is a city of 70,000+ people and when a candidate wins 20% with only 4,000 votes, that's a city-wide shame! Get ready for more of the same old crap, Lynchburg! It's higher taxes and more bad decisions from government for you and you deserve every minute of it!

as a former resident of lynchburg after graduation for 10 years i think lynchburg as grown to be a better city, but the taxes are getting worse form what i hear. and what is even worse is that the people who would reap the benefits of new leadership for the furture probably do not vote. it is the same way in roanoke. these cities are not nearly as progressive as they could be, good jobs for the younger generation are few and far between and the amenities are not nearly what they should be. if anyone on this board is not registered to vote, do it, b/c it is a privledge. the only way changes can be made is if we become actively involved. for those who complain well unless you vote you will never make a difference. the sad state of affairs is how many seem not to care about local govt. this is wher eit all begins. im off my soapbox now.

I'm with you Libertine. I was so disgusted that so few went out to vote and in the end nothing really will change. This city can really get on my nerves at times which is why I plan to move out of it soon.

I'm glad to see he did the right thing. Now we just need city council to start looking at reducing taxes and creating job growth.
