Putting up your wiper blades

If I was a simple man, I'd think this was some kind of car disease. I'll get to work in the morning and see a set in the air and think "well that's odd" Then I'll go to lunch and it's some kind of automobile plague. 50% of all cars in the lot are infected. I'm 100% certain this is just a case of group think. One person does it and everybody thinks, I'm getting on that bandwagon. I had never seen anybody do this until I came to Lynchburg Virginia. It doesn't make sense! Stop doing it! Your wipers will not be clearing ice of of your windshield! It doesn't matter if they're stuck.

It DOES make it easier to clear all the snow and ice off the windshield...that is WHEN the forecast is legit.

:P I do it and I'm proud of it. I do it cause they are out of the way for scrapind and clearing the windshield. Why my wipers are down they sit partly under the back of the hood. If they aren't up, they are incased in ice or snow, and nearly impossible to get out.

start the dang car and put your defrost on. By the time you finish scraping, they'll be freed if you still need them.

Yes, I'm from Southern California, and hate cold weather.

yes, this really baffled me the first time I saw it. And I love it when the forecast calls for snow or ice, everyone in my neighborhood parks at the end of their driveway, even if their driveway slopes down to the road. lazy rednecks.

My neighbors did this too! It's a long driveway I guess, but it's paved. It's not like a 100% frictionless substance will be falling down from the sky. And even if it was, parking there isn't gonna help you.

If you try to turn on your wipers when they are frozen to the windshield, that can really mess up the motor on your wipers. That's probably why car lots in the Lynchburg area do that too with their wipers on their new and used cars.

If its just snow, there is not really any need to do it. Snow can be brushed off quite easily. If the forecast is for freezing rain it does makes some sense. Either way you are going to have to run the defroster and let the car warm up. I'd be more inclined to just let the car warm up and by then the ice will have melted. For the record, I live about 3 hours north of the burg and people do it here to.

This is easily the funniest thread of the week.

And I'm trying to recall what this word "frozen" is that everyone is using.

I am sure you can easily think back to your days in Cinci, Sly.

Everytime that I do I think of chili, the Big Red Machine and Montgomery Inn ribs. But I have washed all temps below 65 from my memory banks. Everything I need to remember can be summed up in two words:

Winter sucks

I've blown 3 fuses b/c I try to use my wipers and they are frozen...in fact I just did it two days ago...and today it rained and I had nothing b/c I havent replaced the fuse yet...so laugh at those idiots but I'm now going to become one

that doesn't make any sense...blowing fuses?...

so what? when you put your winshield wipers down they are sitting an inch above the windshield because of the snow?....
