Accounting internship... or something

I know there are people from all over Lynchburg on here, so I figured it would be worth a shot to post this need.

I'm in search of an accounting internship of any kind for this upcoming summer. I'm currently employed by the LU Bookstore and Logan's Roadhouse. These jobs are great and all, but they will not do anything for my resume, nor will they give me much experience. I really want to find an internship at a local firm or business for the summer.

If there's advice or help to be given as I'm on the hunt, I'd sure appreciate it. Thanks.

I would go out and try a search on accounting interships and see what you get on yahoo, etc.
Other then that, hit up the IRS website now and get your resume to them asap and pray. Good luck

Bryson, your best resource is probably Dr. Bruce Bell, the Dean of the School of Business. He's a great guy, who is very knowledgeable and very approachable.

If you want to work at a local CPA firm for the summer, then it might be best to apply for a job right now as these firms are heading into the tax season and will have a major need for help. You’ll do a lot of copying, but you will also get a chance to prepare tax returns (if Mrs. Gilmore is still teaching the tax class, you will be more than ready for basic tax returns).

Tax preparation is the bread and butter of the local firms, so there isn’t much work in the summer. If they like you, they might take you under their wing and keep you for the summer for audits or misc projects. I did two internships for the same firm while I was in Virginia taking this approach.

Best of luck. Coming from real world experience, I know your accounting degree from Liberty will serve you well.

that is correct that most firms are filling their internships now. i have tried two firms, one of which just filled summer internships, and the other which filled their internships for the summer back in september. thanks for the tips. i will take some of the advice given and run with it.

i am still on the hunt for some kind of accounting internship, job-shadowing, job, etc. in the lynchburg ares. this is not for school credit. i just don't want to waste another summer waiting tables. i'd like some experience; not to mention i need a job for the summer. it doesn't have to be at a firm, just accounting/financial related.

any ideas? thanks for the help.

I need all the experience I can get, job shadowing, etc. Not looking to take away from Bryson, but if you hear of anything more business related than accounting, let me know. gracias

if not, i'm stuck working at jcrew for the summer

Huge company in Front Royal

There's going to be a summer internship position in my department at Genworth, but I don't think anything's been posted. Will let you guys know when I hear something. It would be for Shared Services, which is under the Office of the Controller umbrella. They do mostly AP, intercompany accounting, expense accounting, fixed asset stuff. It would be good experience and you're almost guaranteed to get a job somewhere here when you're done.
