it\'s supposed to be easier than a real college - meaning an accredited 4-year institution. then again, you\'ll also find some classes there you won\'t find at a real college, mainly classes dealing with specific professions - for example, i know in the past they have had classes on welding and a class to earn a professional weed killer spraying license, so basically classes to develop practical and specific skills for a particular job.

I know some people who go there, they like it ok.

My dad earned a diploma in "Machine Tool" there as well.

I've known several students that have taken the two course sequence in Anatomy and Physiology...have gotten "easy" grades...but more importantly...have learned the material.

From a student's perspective, it's a lot more like high school, as many more of the students there are very much still in the high school mindset. I've also been told that quite a few professors talk too much about reality shows when they should be teaching or helping students. It all depends on what classes you're taking and what professor teaches it. I can't provide specific information like that, but maybe one of the professor rating sites could help.

I went to a community college for a year before going to Coastal. I didn't go to CVCC, so I'm speaking in general with everything I say. The classes will be between high school level and college level. That's one reason community colleges are also called "junior college." I don't know if you're just graduating from high school or what, so if you aren't, disregard this next spot. Community college is a great way to transition from high school to college. It also gives you a chance to figure out what you really like so that you don't spend a ton of money changing majors at a university. It'll feel a lot like high school from a social perspective because a large majority of the people there went to high school together and still live at home, etc. Had the community college I went to been closer (it was a 35 minute drive each way), I likely would've stayed there the full two years. My sister actually moved to Wilmington and is going to their community college for two years before she goes to UNCW.

I don't know how much of what I wrote applies to you and how much doesn't, but to sum it up, I'll say this: community college is a great way to take the classes you need for a lot less money in a less intense setting than a university. I'd honestly recommend it to anyone that asked.

I dont know your $$$$ situation but if you're in need to watch your budget go ahead and knock out some basic classes...but PLEASE take my advice on this...go to all the department chairs and make sure you show them the class syllabus so they can approve it and you dont end up taking a worthless class...I took one class that had 10 of 11 books the same...that one book almost made my time worthless...I ended up having to get it signed off on from pretty high up...it was a pain

I also took some intensives over there just so I'd finish up quicker

You might want to consult your CASAS representative (not sure what they're calling them nowadays) to ensure that the classes you take at CVCC will definitely transfer. One cool thing about transferring credits (at least to LU, unless this has changed) is it doesn't affect your GPA - everything is essentially pass/fail.

its still the same, which is nice in one sense but annoying in another, because every class i've transferred i've had an A or B in, so they wouldve helped.

it is nice though because when i was taking those classes I didn't stress because I knew all I had to do was make a C and it would transfer but not effect my gpa
