all I know is when i road by it was a pile of brick with a tractor scooping the remains into a dump truck. it's about time they tore it down though, when was the last time that thing was used?

The symbolism of that is almost palpable. :jail

(Especially for any alumnus circa 1999 and earlier. ID checks anyone?)

Whose bright idea was it to knock this thing over at 2 in the afternoon on the Thursday before break? Half the kids on campus were leaving today.

Ahhhh the memories...coming on to campus at 230-300 in the morning to get some accreditation study work done...and having to stop and pull my ID out so "I may pass..."
...or coming back right after midnight from a sports team road trip and waiting in a 20 minute line of traffic being stopped car by car at the guard shack.

HOLY COW!

we definitely need pix!

I hope SOMEONE saved a shot of that for posterity. Certainly a big, albeit symbolic, evidence of the change in mentality on the mountain these days- and I'm glad to see it.

yup. The current students have no idea the impact that structure had on us back in the 80s.

Those bricks should be sold to alumni for a fund raiser.

No kidding, CJ.

If those bricks could talk they would be able to recite some fabulous excuses.

Hey, I graduated in '02 and still made my share of stops at the shack. It wasn't until East Campus and Campus North opened that they stopped using it.

since there were about 800 LUPD there during the tear-down (not to mention one LUPD had a big chunk of the shack in the trunk of his car... for memory sake i'm sure), i called them. the officer was not very nice.... and he had no clue where i could find the remains.

As do I; You can almost feel the refreshing breeze from the winds of progress up on that mountain...

As a resident of East Campus for my undergrad career, the guard shack never affected my life in anyway whatsoever. (Hence the beginning of its demise). Anyway, all that remained when I left was the tile floor.

I noticed that Coleman-Adams has moved into the staff lot next to the Religion Hall and that they've plowed some sort of road around behind it. I suspect they're in the beginning stages of building the new bookstore. I also suspect that they're going to be bringing in equipment and supplies, the logistics of which would be vastly simplified by not having a small brick building in the middle of the road. That's just speculation on my part, though.
