A newly renovated wireless test lab at Liberty University is now up and running. It could soon be ready to help regional technology companies test their products closer to home.
The university, along with Region 2000’s Center for Advanced Engineering and Research, unveiled the facility Tuesday afternoon.
The lab is part of the former Ericsson property that the university bought five years ago. CAER struck a deal with Liberty this June to revive the lab.
That partnership attracted $400,000 from the Virginia Tobacco Commission to help purchase equipment. Tyco Electronics pitched in $150,000.
This is an amazing piece of tech for the university and for the engineering program. So many electronics companies will now be able to send their gear here for FCC approval testing and save themselves some cash. (Or just invest locally, as Tyco mentioned in the N&A article.) Our engineering students will benefit greatly from the experience. It's a double win. Congrats to everyone who worked on keeping the lab and securing the investments to get it running again!
