I usually try to tip around 15%, but my wife's uncle used to really embarrass us, because when he felt like he got bad service, he would always leave a PENNY to make a statement. Looking back on it, I think the old guy was just cheap or had unrealistic expectations, because he left more pennies than he did a decent tip.
When I was in college and working as a cook at the Chattanooga Choo Choo, I remember a waiter got fired when he went up to a customer who left a 25 cent tip and said, "here, I think you dropped your quarter."
