With what is expected to be the largest homecoming in LU history just around the corner, I thought I'd start up a thread with the latest developments.

Here is the schedule as posted by LU Alumni on their site:
Friday, October 26th
10:00 am
- Convocation in the Vines Center

12:00 pm - Flames Club Luncheon ($10 to eat or just $2 to gawk)

3:00 pm - Communications Alumni Panel in DeMoss 1105

7:00 pm - Women's Volleyball Game vs. High Point

7:00pm - Men's Soccer vs. Presbyterian

7:00 pm - Alumni/Family Skate @ LaHaye Ice Center. $5 includes skate rental ($20 max for a family). Open until 10:00 pm.

Approximately 8:30 - Alumni Basketball Game (Immediately following Volleyball)

9:00 pm - Homecoming Bonfire & Concert in the parking lot behind Williams Stadium. Sponsored by Student Activities

Saturday, October 27th
8-11:00 am
- Visit the LaHaye Student Center to enjoy swimming, basketball, weight room, and cardio room<

8:30 am - 10:30 am - LU Alumni Hockey Game

9:00 am - 10:30 am - LU Alumni Attorney Breakfast Hosted by LU School of Law

10:00 am - 11:00 am - The Liberty Champion 25 year anniversary Brunch for all former staff members and their families in DeMoss 1035

10:30 am - ??? - Mens Basketball Team Open Scrimmage

11:00 am - 11:30 am - Homecoming Parade

1:00 pm - 4:00 pm - Homecoming Football Game vs. Presbyterian

4:00 pm - 7:00 pm - Alumni Homecoming Dinner at Tolsma Indoor Track

6:00 pm - Women's Soccer game vs. Coastal Carolina

7:00 pm - Women's Volleyball game vs. Winthrop

7:30 pm - Men's Hockey game vs. Stony Brook ($5)

8:00 pm - Theatre Arts Department Production of Crazy For You (Children 12 and under $5; Adults $8)

First off, a couple of things jump out at me. Wasn't there a Friday night hockey game scheduled against Stony Brook? And anyone who was at last year's Alumni Dinner, I would like a perspective on whether its worth missing out on all of the other sports going on at the same time. I want to use our time wisely.

And what is the bonfire concert?

the concert last year wasn't that great. personally i would go to the hockey game. i love hockey though. only bad thing is 5 bucks to get in, but i guess you alums have to pay to get into the games anyway. forget all the stuff before the game saturday, thats tailgatin time

in year's past the bonfire concert has always been a local act...and as of right now there are only like 2 decent local acts that just get recycled...but who knows

Where does the parade fit into the Saturday schedule?

I'll be there for homecoming -- we always are. Helps to have in-laws in town to stay with.

I'll ALSO be in town the 13th and 14th of October -- I'm preaching at Pleasant View Baptist that Sunday (both services) if anyone wants to come out.

That's the spirit, Phoenix. Never be shy about dropping local plugs. Although your ID isn't exactly what most of us want to see popping up on our swcreens right now in light of the day's events.

I believe I saw in some other listings that the parade was at 11 am.

Maybe its just me but I remember Friday's schedule being more substantial last year when I was trying to get to Lynchburg.

And I guess this indicates that the Alumni Basketball game will not be this weekend. I know it had been suggested it would be a later date but I was hoping otherwise.
I went to the Alumni dinner last year. It was nice. They separate seating by decades so you have a pretty good chance at seeing someone you know. You could probably just poke your head in the door for 15-20 minutes if you wanted to see the other sporting events. The food is above average Marriot food, which isn't that great. They gave away a ton of free stuff last year (t-shirts, mugs, stickers, etc.) just to fill out an alumni card. They also sold past yearbooks for $5 a piece.

It sounds like it might be worth dropping by after the postgame tailgating. And by that time I may be hitting the wall with Mrs. Sly as far as athletic events go. But we will not miss seeing the hockey game Saturday night since its the only one while we are in town.

Sly - Should be a great game against Stony Brook - any chance Mrs. Sly would be up for the doubleheader?
It is always good to watch the D2 guys pound Duke

We have a 6am flight in Raleigh. We're debating the virtues of staying up late and then just sleeping on the flight home. So it is possible.

Just out of curiosity, I'd like to see who all will be coming in for the weekend from out of town. Who is in?

My wife and I will be there

No set plans on the alumni game yet. RMK wants it the week after homecoming but talking with the alumni everyone including me wants to do it homecoming weekend. If we do it will probably be 7 PM on the Friday night. They didn't advertise it as an event last year either since we planned it so late. Next year we will try to get it on the list as an event. Anyway, of course MRS SCAR and I will be there for that weekend. Sly, let us know what hotel you are staying in. I think I will be there Thursday night but for sure Friday morning.

Yeah, I thought about changing my screen name after this weekend, but I figured it would confuse everyone. Me included.

I know Dr Kerr has been trying to get a huge group of band alumni for homecoming (100 I believe) to play with the band at halftime.

Sly, if youre up that early, you are welcome to stop by the football stadium and watch the band rehearse Saturday morning before the parade

I don't have an official list but I am hoping a good deal of the local guys come. Hess, Gomes, Nazigian, Chaffin, Manley, Harry Williams, Wille Roach, Hildebrand, McCauley, Adam Hopkins, Maxey Wilkerson, Erik Sorensen and others. I think Alston, Cunningham, Chapman, Harden and Cline will be there. I know Riber and Sneed will be there and I am pretty sure Mantlo and Allison will show even though they are both coaches. I will be there and plan on scoring 4 points this time. 2 each half.

What about formerplayer? I'd love to catch up with him. You can count on Mrs. Sly & I being there for geezer hoops.

I'll be there with my folks (their first LU homecoming) for the football and volleyball games. We might just have to stick around for geezer hoops as well.

While we are promoting events with which we are involved, I guess I should mention I'll participating in an COMS Alumni panel discussion on Friday at 3pm in DeMoss Room 1105. I believe there may even be another FlameFan or two involved with that event as well.

I think Chris Caldwell should be there again. Jim Pearce might even show up. Charles Richardson will figure out a way to get up to VA as well I am sure.

I would like to try to remember to get over there to watch that. Sounds fun. What topics will be discussed? I am not a COMS alum though but would like to hear what is going on.
