I was just talking to a couple people on AIM, and almost simultaneously, they all said something to the likes of "brb, hall meeting."

Thank God I don't have to go to that.

I've offered up as simple solution in the past on here, but the "three x a week" convo purists would have none of it. :?

They moved it because of all the kids signing out on Thursday nights for the weekend and skipping hall meeting.

thats what they say, but i firmly believe it was scaring kids away on cfaw...I know they have a hall meeting type deal when they are on campus...but its not nearly the same as guys are completely going out of there way now to torture these poor kids

Yeah its called hall connection I hate it

When I was cfawing I had a blast and the guys on the dorm really loved having us around

Of course doing a slip n' slide and finding out the guys on the dorm got fined 40 bucks for it and me nothing was great too

The corporate gathering does provide a unique cohesiveness to the student body that is unique to the school. That said, there are ways they could slightly alter so it is less of an albatross and annoyance to students.

Crazy Idea Food for Thought:

Bookend Convos: Opening Week (Monday) and Closing Week (Friday) avoids the oversaturation and waning of speaker variety towards the end of a given semester/year while preserving the collective meeting of the student body. Since everyone said that Wednesdays were Sr.'s pet, now that the torch has been passed to Jr. who is self-admittedly not overly joyed at public speaking, perhaps you do the following for Wednesdays:

Hall Meeting (Connection or whatever). The hour is already built into the schedule; students go back to their dorms for "convo" to meet with their dormmates. Via weblink or TV, the first 5-10 minutes are Announcements/University-wide business (et al) from whomever does it now, then the next 20-25 minutes or so would be the Chancellor's Address to the student body from the Mansion (or TRBC Sr. Pastor for pinch hitting where necessary), then a few minutes for RA business/announcements, and then 10-15 minutes for a small group short devotion and short time of prayer.

Voila, the intent of meeting is preserved, less animosity/resistance by students, and it could actually be a more refreshing/productive time in the AM rather than open ended marathon sessions (some dorms) right in the middle of your evening on a weeknight.

(For commuters who wish to find out what the Chancellor has to say, arrangements could be made for them to meet in an area to watch the feed. For those who live off campus and wish to be part of a small group of other commuters for a short devotional/prayer time, they could go here to find others who share the same desire. Thus, any commuter students who wish to be engaged and connected can avail themselves of the opportunity should they so choose.)

So it looks like this: (all times circa late 90's)

Monday: 10-11:00 Opening the Academic Week Convo
(Guest Speaker or TRBC Sr. Pastor Student Body Charge)

Wednesday: 10-11:00 AM

10:00-10:10 University-wide Business/Announcements
10:10-10:35 Chancellor's Address from the Mansion
10:35-10:45 Dorm/Hall Specific RA Business/Announcements
10:45-11:00 Small Group Short Morning Devotional & Prayer

Friday: 10-11:00 Closing the Academic Week Convo (Guest Speaker)

(That's all I got. Feel free to ignore it, since that is what will happen anyway  . But at least the idea is out there.)

I dont see my RA's taking "a few minutes" to do all the announcements...
"Ladies your straps must be 3 fingers th- wait thats not for us"

VERY good idea for people who have no classes before 10 - roll out of bed and into the hallway.
