New driving pet peeve

We talk about these a lot on here and it's always in the Lynchburg forum, because a lot of these problems seem exclusive to this area, oddly enough. Most of them I've gotten used to over the years and they don't bother me that much. But yesterday I almost put a 70 year old man out of his misery. I was trying to get onto 29 business over by where Outback is and traffic was pretty thick and nobody was getting over. So unfortunatly I had to stop at the end of the onramp or else I would have had to plow into somebody. In my side mirror, I could see a gap coming, just enough for me to get into and pick up enough speed so that it wasn't dangerous. And sure enough, right when I started to make my move, Methuzela behind me just coasts on into it. I definately had the thought of catching up to him and ending his drive. Luckily, by the time I caught up to him I had moved down from Road Rage mode to just extremely ticked off.
The moral of the story, old people should have to take driving tests every 3 months when they reach 65.

I drive a pretty crappy car. Well, mechanically it's great. It's just old. My wife has a nice car and I just don't feel like making a car payment for myself to drive anything nicer. Anyway, there are many many many times when stuff like that happens where I think about making their mistake obvious by sacrificing my beater of a vehicle. Like when someone is tailgating me...I could just slam on the brakes. If the car is totaled, meh.
It's going to happen someday.

My favorite is when they have about 100 yards left before they have to merge and they're sitting there at a dead stop at the beginning of the on-ramp, looking over their shoulder.

when you are merging from a 4 leaf clover onto the interstate and the guy behind you gets into the lane before you do and then starts passing you as you merge into the lane....i just go, i know my rules of the road, you are in the wrong, i have no problem running into you if i'm by myself... its the only time i'm aggressive...
here is another of mine...
i'm the blue car

I hear you Mallet!
Anyone ever give in to road rage and do something stupid. About the worst I've done was when I was passed on a curve on two lane road. I was so ticked at the speeding moron that I tailgated him for the couple miles. He probably thought I was going to kill him.

Yes! That picture is exactly that scenario, except that things are often made even worse by cars ahead suddenly deciding that they're thinking Arby's or needing some gas at the Exxon station. I've got someone stopping to turn with no signal and someone else merging into my lane in the middle of a turn. Madness.

As long as you're not cutting someone off, it's not a problem.

see though what the blue cars arent taking into account is that most of us red cars in that situation arent going their same speed and coming into them, i do it, but i only do it if i have enough room to clear the blue car. its not like im just turning into that car

no- that one is beyond my capabilities-
gotta admit I was impressed.
The vehicle to landscape scaling is nice, and the street marking graffics; just outstanding.
MALLET could work for PennDOT in a heartbeat.
then we could hang out on weekends and mock you wuss-bag non-artists.

Well if youre sitting at the light you jump the light and theres no issue
And in other circumstances if you take the corner quick enough youre safely ahead of him
So apparently I misread the whole thread
Im gonna go spy on someone at the Hancock building

ok ok i get what you are implying....this has nothing to do with the red car beating the blue car into the lane (even though LANE CHANGES IN AN INTERSECTION ARE ILLEGAL AND TICKETABLE) it has to do with the red car having no idea that the blue car is ALSO IN A TURNING LANE....they aren't trying to beat the blue car, they aren't expecting the blue car to turn at all...they aren't going any faster than you....they notice you all of the sudden and nearly drive in to the median....then honk and flail their arms about like i'm the moron....
sorry if the picture is confusing

I agree. I once read a statistic in a "ban cell phones" story that said that a 21-year-old with a cell phone had the reaction time of a 70-year-old, therefore, we should ban cell phones...
and i'm thinking, WTH? What about the other 50 percent of the problem?
Every three months is a little steep, but at least every two years...

the people on mythbusters drove like madmen while talking on the phone...

Maybe this was already discussed, but my pet peeve, like many other is, "WAL-MART."
There are two things that Lynchburg drivers need to learn:
1: If there is not a stop sign, you dont have to stop. (ex. The entrance to wal-mart) If you are coming into wal-mart, you have no stop sign, but I think some people just love to stop and make sure that their brakes are still working.
2. YIELD=YEILD, YEILD does not = STOP!!!
I am convinced that the driving test in this area has some errors on it saying that yeild sign = stop and stop sign = do whatever you want.
