My family and I may move to the Lynchburg area. We are considering a purchase that includes an apt. If you are a town LU student how far do you live from campus (miles & minutes)? How much rent do you pay? What is included in the rent (utilities, lawn service, etc). What are you renting (apt, room, trailer)?

Any Landlords renting to LU students. same questions. thanks.

Let's help out truthdetector. Cider Jim and some others on here know him from one of the Fundy boards.

I have a feeling there are a number of people who can help him fill in the blanks.

I currently live in Boonsboro Village, and my roomie and I pay $640/month (combined). That includes water, garbage, lawn service and washer/dryer. Its a 2-bedroom, 1 1/2 bath apartment.

I lived off campus for 3 of my 4 years, I graduated in May 2006, so, it's been almost 2 years since I've been there so prices have probably risen a bit. Anyways, I rented one side of a duplex house for $500/month. It was 2 bedroom 1 bath, kitchen, living room, decent size yard. No utilities included. I was off of Timberlake Rd by Greenville Dr, which is right next to Brookville High School. It usually took about 10 minutes to get on campus and probably 5-6 miles.

We're planning on selling the house I'm in right now when I graduate next year. Will probably plan on being out of it by July 1, 08.

Correct me if I misunderstood truthdetecter, but it sounds like you want to purchase a house with an apartment you could rent for income. There are a lot of large older homes in the historic Rivermont area which are already converted to multiple family dwellings. 15-20 minute drive from campus.

Yes, you are correct. I've been perusing some of the realty sites and several of the homes have an apt with them. Some even have a separate small house with the main home. I was curious as to how far I could live from LU and still attract potential student renters. I want a good safe neighborhood, or rural/country setting...........CAN YOU FIND RURAL 10-15 miles away from LU? I haven't been to Lynchburg and looked around since the early 90s.

Just drive over the top on Candler's Mtn Rd and it gets rural in a hurry. You can be rural within 5-10 minutes that direction. And rural just about any direction in 20-25 minutes.
