About 8,000 students packed into the Vines Center on Wednesday for Liberty University’s first convocation of the school year - and the beginning of its first fall semester without the late Rev. Jerry Falwell.

“I’m sure there’s laughter in heaven today at the fact that I’m standing here today,” Jerry Falwell Jr., Liberty’s chancellor, said from the podium Wednesday.

It was known as Jerry's time. Every Wednesday Jerry Falwell made it made it a point to be at Liberty University's convocation service. This Wednesay - it was in his honor.

Students wore white in Falwell's memory. His son, Jerry Falwell, Jr., stood behind the podium as the university's new chancellor, in front of a student body of more than 10,000 students.

i wish wset had interiewed people who are not freshmen. What good does it do to ask someone about what its like without Jerry unless they knew what it was like with Jerry.

well no, its just dumb. Freshmen dont know anything right now, (where to park, how to dress, how to fit into society), they especially dont know anything about Dr. Falwell(at least a good 95% of them) and none of them knew what it was like to go to convo every Wednesday and hear Dr. Falwell preach. It would be like WSET asking me today what my thoughts are now that President Guilerman isnt at Liberty anymore. I could give you a bull crap answer, but i have no idea what im talking about.

If you're smart and you pay attention, this is the most important thing you will ever learn in college. Congratulations.

I wasn't being sarcastic for once. The most important thing you (I, you , me, anyone) will ever learn in college is that you really don't have a clue about 99% of what goes on in the world. Once you understand that, everything is wide open and you can learn anything.

I wanted to see what everyone thought about Jerry Jrs Playboy comment/joke. I guess some were pretty upset about that. Also when was Liberty on their list of hottest girls?

What'd he say? I've always heard rumors of us being on a list from Playboy or Maxim or something like that.

I can't remember exactly what he said but was talking about the selling points of LU and some how started talking about how we were on a list in some magazine for our girls but eveantually said "Playboy"

They've always said we have some of the best looking girls in the country.

He basically said that they were having dinner with a family they are good friends with and their son had decided to go to another state school here in Virginia....Jerry Jr went on to tell the kid that Liberty had been voted one of the top schools in the country by a certain male publication for beautiful women....then the kid's father said, "yeah, it was Playboy magazine, I have that issue in my bedroom!"

everyone laughed, and then he said, "This is why they never let me speak here before"

It was great and after he got so much laughter from it he seemed to be much more comfortable up there....

...because verbalizing those syllables in that particular order automatically knocks one down a few pegs on the God-chart.

guess I'm off that chart then

I have problems with LOTS of syllables.

esp when attempting to construct things.

Sadly, that "list" is an urban legend that seems to float around most college campuses.

I think the problem is that once you've seen the girls at LU it becomes much more believable than it would be at other schools.

see i had always heard it was an urban legend...the when Jerry Jr brought it up I was like, "wow, has it been true all this time"...I was working for this guy who graduated here in the late 80's and he is like, "So Jesse, is that Playboy rumor still going strong???" and I then laughed and said yeah...and he is like man that thing is never going to die....

That's an urban legend? I thought that was real. Not being sarcastic here. I really thought that list was real.
