This could be a good opportunity for LU to work with some local area colleges...I remember a complaint in the past being that we're an "ivory tower" that won't work with the other area schools.

Sharing resources would go along way to opening LU up to the outside and creating a consortium of sorts...
...also mirroring that UVA setup might be something that LU might benefit from; otherwise, UVA could start picking off some local talent that could have funneled into the LU program. Or, the UVA deal in LU's backyard could lure those who may find themselves on the wrong end of an LU tuition bill that becomes out of reach for them but since they have settled somewhat in the area, they decide the UVA set-up is a good option for them (and possibly cheaper.) It's possible, not probable necessarily, but possible nonetheless.

That works both ways. There's an unbelievable amount of prejudice towards LU from the other regional schools. We've gone from being a plague that no one wanted to touch to an ivory tower. I think the reality is probably that other academic institutions are too prideful to work with "Jerry Falwell's school".

From a nonacademic POV, it would do our ambitions wonders to play nice with other local schools. If we're academic allies with JMU, ODU, UR etc. they won't be such exclusionary jerks when it comes to conference invitations.

Depends on what your term of nice is? If nice means, we are politically correct to the point of watering down the Gospel or our stand, then no. I find it hard that we have ever turned our noses up to other schools. Of course I base that off my early years at LBC, LC thought of as some step child come lately to dinner. I mean look what Jerry did after the VT massacre, open the church up to grieving VT people, offered to send consulors, etc.
