Campus North Cafeteria Remodel

So, this summer the tore out the CN cafeteria down to the frame. They've been working on the remodeling of it rather heavily the last couple of weeks. I was walking around today and thought I'd pop a quick video off on my phone while I was there. It's low-quality, but you can get the idea.

Now, can someone tell me if this is the same kind of look that they gave to the Main Campus cafeteria? If so, it's much different than had been described to me and I don't mind it at all. In fact, I rather like it.

Main campus looks a lot like the Jetsons, and I haven't been able to get a picture of it. There's a lot more room now though.

Not too shabby looking. It reminds me of a Whole Foods or Central Market and that's not a bad thing.

I think i am going to head up there sometime soon and just take a look at it....campus north is really coming along...it has taken a while, but its coming

I really like what they have done to the outside of the building...i hope they continue to do that and complete the whole outside of the building to make it look like that.....it would make it so much more pleasing on the eyes....

Agreed. The facade they've done on the side facing the FOC is really nice. If it continues around the building, that would be a great thing.

Ok, this thing at the Rot is going to go downhill fast. It looks great, and I love having the different places to serve food, but some of our students are so, um, stupid that they're going to ruin it. To those that haven't seen it, they took out the big huge long rows of tables and put in booths, a few large tables (6-10 seating) and then smaller tables (4 people) throughout the cafeteria. Well, today, the first day that a lot of kids were in there, kids were already moving the tables and pushing them next to booths or pushing them next to other tables, which eliminates 1-2 seats per table. They're going to complain there isn't enough room when it's their own fault because they are moving the tables.

The long tables were probably better so that a dorm could sit together or a sister dorm or whatever. But I do like the restaurant feeling of smaller tables.

I hated the people in my dorm what with their praying all the time and whatnot. I certainly didnt' want to eat with them.

Ok, well really, you can only talk to the people that are right next to you unless you're yelling, so put four at a table, with a few tables in the same vicinity, and you've got yourself the long table with even more seating.

SuperJon - You called the cafeteria "the rot." Do you know how it got that name?

Something with it used to be the Marriot or something like that. We call it that now because that's what the food tastes like.

I've been here a year and a half and, until June, I'd never eaten in the Rot.

While I was here from 94-98 the food service was marriot and it was commonly called "the rot"

I don't think they took into consideration that people generally like to eat in large groups on campus. Big oversight in my opinion. So I don't think the students moving tables around is a big deal or problem, that's just how they prefer to eat. What happens when you pile 7-8 people into a little coupe and head down to eat, only to find that a table can only fit 4 of you? Not cool.

Hopefully LUPD pulls over the driver and gives them a nice ticket before they're even close enough to the dining hall to worry about how the tables are set up.

pfff, not likely. From 5-7pm every car on campus is packed out like a clown car.

Sounds like I need to let LUPD know that they're missing out on some golden ticket writing revenue.

They have tables set up with 8 seats in different places around the cafeteria. There are booths that are set up for 5-6 people. The thing is, people want to move regular tables that aren't set up like that.

yeah man...its pretty immature of them....they would never do anything like that at any other college around america.....except I have seen it many times in the many college visits I made my senior year of high school

I know....but you always say "Liberty kids ruin everything"....as if things are unique to this school....most of the time thats not true....

Not unique, just moreso than others I've been at (and I've been to three colleges).
