My LU box has been getting a crap load of spam in it lately. JDub told me his was as well. Is it happening to anyone else? Any reason why?

The spammers came up with a new methodology.

I'm sure we'll come up with a way to fight it soon.

Spam sucks, but it's not going away in the foreseeable future.

Like I said, eventually we'll filter out this new spam. For now, the easiest thing to do is just to create a rule with keywords from the subjects of the greeting card messages so that they get sent to your junk folder.

That's what I've done with mine -- anything that says "Greeting Card" goes directly to my junk folder.

its because conventional anti-spam products are terrible and/or require tons of configuration and management. something most network administrators really don't have time to deal with.

We run into schools that have 2 people whos entire job is to work with their spam filter....on a product they pay thousands of dollars a year for....

i use my email all day long and for everything. i've had my account for 3 years at work and i get 1 or 2 a week. its wonderful.

we have guys here at work that have 10 yr old accounts that get 1 or 2 a day.

greylisting pretty much eliminates 75% of our spam mail before we run it through anything else....

my liberty mail is my "junk" mail and i get about 30 a week. really not that bad...but i probably don't use it as much as most.

Our spam filters are actually pretty good. This greeting card mess will probably result in an update for us. But we don't really have any problems with them and they're very little work for us.

yeah as i said...30 a week for an address that i solely use for signing up for stuff (basically saying "send me spam") isn't bad....i don't even have any rules set up
