Since we have the new engineering college opening this fall and talk of a Med school in five years, what other schools should LU open?
I would think a college of journalism. Since we have a law school and we want to change America thru the court system. It would make sense to make changes thru the printed media. The pen is mightier then the sword.
Also a college of hotel management, that field would be great for Lynchburg area and could add growth to the city thru maybe more hotels/motels.

School of Medicine and Allied Health...
...which would obviously include a Med School and the existing majors of Nursing and the Athletic Training Education Program. Of course, a definite add would be a Paramedic program.

LU currently does have a journalism program, its through the school of communications. That was what my degree was in, communications with a concentration on print journalism. As far as hotel management, that may be something the school of business will add in the future.

Personally, I would like to see Liberty establish some type of academy to train firefighters, police officers, and EMTs. I know the community college offers EMT training courses, but I think something like that at Liberty would be a great compliment to the great nursing and athletic training programs we currently have as well as a med school. Plus, LU Emergency Services may be able to get some people who aren't so skiddish of vomit that they back away and know how to take blood pressure. There's another thread on this board with that story.

Actually, many major colleges are dumping their J-schools since those of us in the field are not exactly known for giving back to the school.

I think we need to make sure expand out and offer as many engineering choices as possible. I know that's not a new college but it is where I could see the greatest potential.

I would say expand and offer nuclear engineering, isnt there some nuclear companies in the area. Thanks for the info about our Journalism major. Good ideal about EMS, police and firefighting majors.

That in itself would make having EMS service on campus a reality and maybe a study also. Before you say no way to a hospital on campus, I can say if BJU has a campus hospital I don't see why we would or could not.

LU doesn't have any type of EMS service?? I'm shocked they don't considering their size.

We have some EMT's...and all the LUPD are First Responders...but a comprehensive EMS...nope.

Not enough...as evidenced this past school year when one of our law prof's passed away. I think each LUPD vehicle carries one...and there is one at each athletic facility and on site for practices and games. They are definitely NOT in evidence on walls throughout campus like you would think, though.

dont you think you are being a bit unrealistic? those things cost anywhere from 1500-3000+ EACH. it would cost a school as small as LC well into the hundreds of thousands to be able to have that many. and if they were on the walls of the halls, that could be quite dangerous if some hooligan wanted to play a joke and got one and used it on someone, that could very easily result in a death.

Each academic department should have one.
There should be at least one centrally located in major classroom clusters.
Each dorm should have one.

Trust me...the money is there. You can't put a price on the possibility of saving a life. I was lucky in my heart attack that it did not stop beating...but could have. Is there one anywhere near where I teach? Yes...but I work down the hall from our Health Services. Other faculty might not be so lucky.

I teach in our Athletic Training Education Program...am heading into my 8th year. I was at UNCA for 8 years previously as Head Athletic Trainer.

I think shuck just did. If we're going to put a defibrillator every 50 feet or so, why stop there? We could have one giant box full of vials of epinephrine, insulin, adrenaline and anti-venom. While we're at it, we should pad all the walls (assuming they're asbestos-free) and station a lifeguard on every other corridor in case of incidents at the water fountain.
